IMO the BIGGEST reason for the optimism (this goes for other teams as well) is that the Birds didn't begin to really hit their stride until the changes that were made after the Pittsburgh game. The defense has been totally reinvented with the changes that were made on the defensive line and at linebacker.

Keeping in mind that we just beat the living daylights out of Green Bay WITHOUT 2/5 OF OUR STARTING OFFENSIVE LINE...I'd say the birds are starting to play their best football at the right time. They haven't even played 60 minutes of error free football yet!

#1 scoring defense in the NFL. The bend but don't break Jim Johnson defense is #1 where it matters most. They will give up yards...but they will not give up points. As far as whether or not points matter...well there are some AFC folks that don't seem to think so. ;)

SB - Wild Bill doesn't know I was only busting your balls with the AFC team post. In all seriousness I would not sell the Colts short if they get to the SB. Not to mention you had better hope the Eagles don't take for granted they are a cinch to win the NFC Title game or even their Divisional game. Like they say on any given Sunday.

Totally agree Wil, the birds know they have to take care of business. I was stunned they left in McNabb and all the starters so long. If someone got hurt Reid would have been crucified in Philly. They should start taking it easy and preparing for the show, if anything they don't really have much to play for until playoffs barring a total collapse in holding that home field advantage over the other "birds".

I was talking NFL tonight with some customers at my bar tonight and the Eagles was a topic of discussion. We all agreed Philly was over rated but one guy said he didn't like them was because the quarterback is black.

Now, first off im not racist. Lets look at the facts.

How many black quarterbacks have won the SB?

I believe the answer is one. Doug Williams with the 1987 Skins. And as for Tony Banks and Shawn King I believe they were backups.

I believe many bettors, and fans for that manner, have this "black qb" thing in the back of their heads. This is why Eagles get no respect. Am I wrong?
Ask yourself this...do you believe Donovan Mcnabb can win the Super Bowl?

That's true WildBill Willy and I go back and forth on this all the time. :103631605 All in good fun.

I'm not taken anything for granted. I've had enough of the last few years to know we don't win anything until Lurie is holding the Lombardi Trophy in his hands after the clock reads all zeroes and the scoreboard reads Eagles 27 Patriots 17 ;).

"Ask yourself this...do you believe Donovan Mcnabb can win the Super Bowl?"

Yes, yes and I believe my final answer is YES. McNabb didn't do a lot to lose last year's NFC Championship. He put the ball in places where our guys should've been able to catch it. 2 years ago maybe he wasn't ready against the Bucs D and he definately wasn't ready against the Rams but he's had plenty of big game experience to know what needs to be done. This team doesn't have to rely on him to win every game by himself. He doesn't have to be great he just needs to be good enough and not make the big mistake when the time comes (he has made the big mistake in the past).

It should also be noted that this team has never been to a Super Bowl...so it's tough to say "can he win it" without ever having the opportunity.

Sure why not. He is more talented than Brady, just Brady had better talented players around him in the past. Football is so far from being an individual sport that I can't believe people bother with these lines of thinking. A mediocre QB with a great defense and line can win it all; just ask Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer about that. Even Brady didn't do much in his first effort until the last drive.

37 Super Bowls and one winning black qb.

Is this a coincidence? :think2:

Bill I disagree...McNabb is not more talented than Brady.
Not a chance.

You're fooling yourself if you think Brady is a better QB. Raw talent there isn't even a discussion here. Even Willy might break down and kind of agree with me. ;)

I sense a little bias sportsbet. I guarantee you every GM in the NFL would take Brady over McNabb in a heartbeat. That would include Eagles GM im sure.

Crack kills bookie!
:smoker2:

Brady is a good QB...a very good QB. But McNabb can do things on the field Brady can only dream about.

First of all I don't believe race makes a bit of differance today (2004) in either college or pro football when it comes to talent at quarterback. To me it is a non-issue. The argument of 37 Super Bowls and only one black QB is not relevent. Comparing McNabb and Brady is not easy, as a football player McNabb is the better athelete as a pure passer only (no scrambling) Brady gets the slighest edge. Tom Brady has been in the right place at the right time now for 3 years and has made the most of it. He is one of those rare atheletes who plays with guts and brains and knows what it takes to win. If Brady is like anyone he is like Joe Montana while McNabb is more like John Elway - both great but the McNabb/Elway combo have more natural talent..

Like win 2 Super Bowls
Like win 2 Super Bowl MVP

All accomplished in you guessed it 2 years.

What has McNabb won or done? :breakit:

Wil I dont buy McNabb is the better athlete or has a better arm.
Tom Brady is an all-round athlete...he was drafted 18th overall by the Montreal Expos in 1995 draft. He reads defenses better and can throw the ball deep and in the flat with speed and precision.

Eagles receivers

Terrell Owens
Chad Lewis
Freddie Mitchell
L.J. Smith
Mike Bartrum
Billy McMullen

Pats receivers

David Patten
P.K. Sam
Ben Watson
Jed Weaver
Deion Branch
Troy Brown
Christian Fauria
Zeron Flemister
David Givens
Daniel Graham
Cedric James

IMO Eagles have the better receivers so I dont buy the argument Brady is surrounded by more quality players. The only thing McNabb does better than Brady is run.....thats it.

Bookie - if you don't buy it that is fine with me.

Best of luck, wil.
