The problem the Eagles will have to overcome is the Super Bowl itself. Pittsburg, Indianapolis, New England, New York Jets and San Diego Chargers all are better teams. Teams Like Jacksonville, Baltimore, and Denver are pick em on a neutral field against Philly.

As far as the Giants go I don't remember anyone saying they would make the playoffs - the total wins was around 6 depending on the juice you were willing to use.

Getting back to the Eagles just look at their schedule - the one tuff road game they were blown out of:

2004 Schedule
Date Opponent Time/Result
Sep 12 N.Y. Giants Won 31-17
Sep 20 Minnesota Won 27-16
Sep 26 @Detroit Won 30-13
Oct 3 @Chicago Won 19-9
Week 5 BYE
Oct 17 Carolina Won 30-8
Oct 24 @Cleveland Won 34-31
Oct 31 Baltimore Won 15-10
Nov 7 @Pittsburgh Lost 3-27
Nov 15 @Dallas Won 49-21
Nov 21 Washington Won 28-6
Nov 28 @N.Y. Giants Won 27-6
Dec 5 Green Bay Won 47-17

This team has yet to play under adverse conditions against anything close to a good team on the road and win. Save your money betting SB futures on the Eaglets.

Charles - give it a few minutes and this will turn into a thread about the Pats. Just look at the last two games Sunday nite Steelers-Jags and last night's game between Seattle and Dallas to see the difference between the conferences.

That's true. Pittsburgh who thrashed NE (and had a fairly good game against another team we will leave out of this conversation) barely beats Jax and Dallas who got thrashed by Philly 49-21 at home put up 43 on Seattle in their backyard on Monday Night.

The AFC can't score (xcpt Indy)...the NFC can't stop each other from scoring (xcpt us). The nice thing is the Eagles are a cut above the rest. :suomi:

Wil:I fully agree about the conferences, but don't rate all those teams ahead of them. Even the two best teams Steelers/Pats could get bogged down with them in a low-scoring, fairly close game...

Lets see Pats 26-1 last 27 games including 2 of last 3 Super Bowls. Eagles last Super Bowl they were blown out by Raiders when Ron Jawarski was QB in 1981. I don't know why you always have to make it an Eagles - Pats debate whenever anyone talks abut the Eagles in a negative way. Just look at the teams the Eagles have beat on the road this season: Lions, Browns, Bears, Cowboys and Giants, pathetic at best.

The one team that is a bit scary is that Indy team-- sure they're not at the level of the best teams, but they may just impose that high-scoring style & prevail in their 3 postseason games.....I think style of play & getting their foes out of their usual rhythm, plus a lucky bounce / blown ref call here 'n there, will determine who is crowned this year, not level of quality....

I'm cornered into defending Philly-- in spite of not liking them immensely--

I think they're improving as the season progresses........

IMO Philly is very over rated. Their 11-1 is very deceiving when you consider the extremely weak NFC East and the NFC overall. If the Eagles dont make it to the SB this year they never will.

Having said that, I look for Carolina to grab a wild card and if they do I predict them to meet in the NFC Championship game in Philly (provided they dont meet earlier).

I think Philly is still overrated Sundays game just snowballed. I'm not saying there not going to Super Bowl but no way do they beat Indy,Pats, or Steelers. Pressure will set in when playoffs roll around and would not be surprised to see them choke the game again

Wil, stop smoking crack. The Eagles are clearly more talented and loaded than the Chargers or Jets. Colts games against decent teams seem to come down to who has the ball last. The Steelers can only win if they stay in the lead or right there. The Pats, yeah probably a better team. But the Chargers and Jets??? Are you out of your mind? Sure the Eagles have easier competition, but that still doesn't call into question they are a very talented team with the one thing they lacked last year, a big-play guy at receiver. TO fires up the team; the TD to open the game against the Pack was a great example of what they didn't bring last year that was sorely missed.

Like it matters. Whether the teams were getting in at 9-7 or 7-9 they are still fodder for the Eagles and people will still watch the playoff games. A 9-7 season is nothing to be proud of either, but the networks will be damned before they have qualifying requirements like the bowls do. The games must be played.
LMAO, this is the first time I've ever heard anyone use the NCAA bowl games as an arguement for qualifying standards. What is the requirement to make a bowl game? Be 7-5 with with 2 of those wins over North Texas and Colorado State? :messed:

There are 56 NCAA Football teams playing in bowl games this year. Thats 47%. I'm sorry, but in my opinion a team that is barely in the top half should not be involved in any sort of Postseason Play. The postseason being exclusive is needed to make regular season play exciting. The NFL has done a pretty good job of this, with only 12 of 32, 37.5% making the postseason. Baseball is the best with 26% making it, and NBA is the biggest joke with OVER 50% going to the postseason, making the regular season brutally unexciting.:hammerit

Anyhow, my point is that its not NFL or the Networks fault that the NFC sucks this year. Usually the NFL playoffs are exciting even at 1st round. Here's hoping they dont add anymore wildcards. :drink:

Ok Wild Bill I will cut back on the crack if you do. As far as teams like the Jets and Chargers go there is no real way of telling if they are better than the Eagles unless they play. The Colts last 4 games don't look like last team with the ball winners to me:

Nov 14 Houston Won 49-14
Nov 21 @Chicago Won 41-10
Nov 25 @Detroit Won 41-9
Dec 5 Tennessee Won 51-24

WildBill truthfully I prefer the AFC fans underestimating the Eagles this season. The fact is the Eagles beat every single NFC opponent by double digits. They didn't eek out wins over anyone in the conference (like NE over the Jets 13-7). I mean look at the Patriots beating Arizona by 11 points? Indy beat the Packers by 14 in Indy? They gave up 31 points to Brett Farve and company? It was 47-3 Eagles on Sunday in the 2nd half. Baltimore tried but failed. Cleveland tried but failed. Last year the Jets, Bills and Dolphins (pre-Ricky's smoke fest) tried but failed.

The birds have played the AFC...and defeated the AFC. The Birds have played the NFC...and defeated the NFC. I would rather see most AFC teams in the playoffs over a healthy Bucs team. The ONLY team in a Super Bowl I would be afraid of playing would be New England and that is only because they have been there before and they know what it takes to win the thing. Everyone else including Indianapolis and Pittsburgh (really the only three teams capable of even competing with the Birds...Indy is a stretch with that defense) is not even close to a threat and would be just as much of a non-threat in the NFC.

The fact is New England got fat this year off playing teams in the NFC Worst and teams in their own division like hapless Miami and up and coming (but not there yet) Buffalo. They needed James' help to beat the Colts outside in their own stadium. The Pats don't beat teams into submission like the Eagles have.
If the Pats are the best the AFC has to offer, then I like our chances in the Super Bowl. I respect them for their accomplishments but I don't fear them head-to-head right now.

Wil, note what I exactly said:

Colts games against decent teams seem to come down to who has the ball last.

Houston is borderline decent, other three are lousy teams.
