Is this true?
Your telling me the committee can take a team that finishes 3rd in a conference over a team that finished 2nd?
Not sure if this is correct.
Can somebody clarify this?
Thanks,

The committee can take whomever it wants. They'll look at head-to-head, RPI, schedule strenghth, etc. But, and here is the big BUT with this situation, they also pay close attention to the performance of a team over the last 10 games.
When they are seeding teams from the MVC, you can't help but think they are going to look at Wichita's losses down the stretch. I really hope this team gets in, along with NIU and S. Illinois. But right now I see them as on the wrong side of the bubble.
The teams split the head-to-head meetings, but NIU has a slightly better RPI and a better strenghth of schedule rating. Plus, NIU beat W. Michigan in the Bracket Buster while Wichita lost to Miami O. (which is obviously a tougher game, but it's got to count for something.)
Right now, the ACC and Big 10 are presenting big problems for the selection committee. ACC deserves 4 or maybe a fifth, and the Big 10 deserves 3 and maybe a 4th team. But, like the BCS, this process is geared toward the bigger conferences. It was a sin that Utah State didn't get in last year. But that's the problem. Their bid goes to a bubble team in one of the major conferences.
Of course, I could be totally wrong and have been in the past. And, everything could change depending on the tourney. This is going to be a great tourney. That's one thing I am sure of.
Have a good day.
