I agree that we could save a lot of wasted threads if there were PMs here.

But I don't mind the fact we don't have it.

1) Post counts/site activity would go way down.

2) I kind of like the threads meant for 2 people and hijacked by others

Private messaging, and believe me if we had it this page would be full of ppl bitching about spammers, unwanted poker money exchange requests, somebodys GOY for sale, etc. They had it another site and they damn near killed each other over it...The whole day was spent trying to blame somebody for the latest spam msg going around or crying over who hasnt pd the $5 they borrowed the day before...

I literally haven't received one PM like that across the street since I've been there. Not one.

Like I said

If you don't like the blog fine, just ignore it. The feature came as part of an upgrade and I doubt if it is going to be dismantled anytime soon. From what I can see it is not hurting anything where it is.

I will do what I can about PMs but I can't make any promises.

Stay tuned is all I can say.

Thanks, wil.

for the record, i like the blogs. and it doesnt have to go away, it can still there and will probably gain a little more attention over time. but i can see a lot of people considering writing a blog....then opting for a thread where feedback and replies will come much easier

PM's- Sometimes someone here says something of interest and it would be nice to be able to PM them a question or 2. For instance, their are some posters, not the usual blowhards, but a few here who claim to be betting for a living. They dont neccesarily post too much and they arent going to blurt out secrets on the board for all to see, giving away their store.

But they might be willing to give away a tip or a pointer or two to a person in a PM. Sometimes I read something and Id just like to shoot someone a PM and see if they will expand a bit. I know they arent going to post stuff they dont want to give away, especially since sportsbooks can read it.

Couple of suggestions for improving blogs if it is to be an enhanced feature:

-Provide a counter like in the posts so people writing blogs know how many hits/reads they are getting. Outside of comments it is the only way to know if anyone is reading. Making the effort to write is pointless if no one is reading.

-Promote the blogs, perhaps through a contest or some other promo to give people a reason to write them and read them.

-Feature the blogs on the front page if someone writes something important or interesting.

-Utilize the blogs by putting them in a database that will reach people outside the website community. I do not know much about this but know there are sites that will give blogs free advertising by featuring this.

Just a couple thoughts off the top of my head.

We actually do have some plans to improve the blog function. I don't know if everyone is aware but if someone posts a reply in your blog you are sent an email to the email address you have in your Rx.com profile that you have a blog reply. Anyone who uses the blog should make sure their profile addy is up to date.

Email me at person19481950@yahoo.com with the email addy you want on record here and I will make sure it is added to your profile.

Thanks, wil.

Wil, I appreciate you bringing up the PM issue.

While spam, etc. may be a concern, people can always turn off PMs if they don't want to be bothered. I wouldn't mind deleting spam if necessary in order to get to real messages. The email-tag with mods when i've tried to reach a few people is just a time-consuming headache - not that you guys don't respond fast, you always do! It's just a waste of time for everyone involved and I'm sure you have better things to do then forward people's emails all day.

I'm really glad this is being looked at again. Thanks.

There are many ways to limit touts using PMs...You can have a daily cap, restricted multiple-recipient messages, limited storage space, etc.

Frankly, that's just a boilerplate excuse I believe...it bothers me to suggest it, but I think the only rationale that makes any sense about blocking PMs is it increases the post count - there are a lot of "useless" threads of 1 poster looking for another, or other targetted threads that start off 1:1 that get derailed and generate large postcounts and views.

If those are handled via PM, therx loses views hence ad $s.

But if you guys open PMs, I promise to start random drama threads to offset the lost count! :103631605

I try to discourage any of these Cusipz email me when you get a chance to threads whenever possible. That type of traffic is of no use to us at all, it just clutters up the various forums.

I have posted this post dozens and dozens of times over the years. Not a day goes by that I don't get at least one email requesting I forward a meessage to another poster. I get to them immediatley when I see them in my mail box.

CONTACTING OTHER POSTERS - NO PM's and NO EMAILS IN POSTS.

------------------------------------------------------

The Rx. does not have a functioning private message system and also does not allow posters to use private email addresses in threads in any of our moderated Forums..

Anyone wanting to contact another poster by email please contact any Rx.com Moderator at:

wilheim@therx.com
robfunk@therx.com
ttinco@therx.com
sportsavant@therx.com
OldmanTed@therx.com
Iceman@therx.com

Rx. Moderators will forward messages but not give out email addresses of posters who have not previously OKd' it by email or in a thread.

Please include your own exact user name and the exact user name of the poster you want to contact and a moderator will forward your email message along to the email address that the poster you wish to contact has in his Rx.com profile.

Thank you, wilheim.

PS. none of you have any idea of the amount of spam I catch before it appears in a forum on a daily basis.

And how many PM's have you received across the street from a tout? My guess is none.

I have never sought them out.

I dont think a tout will send random PMs to just anyone. There has to be a target audience.

I am not a target.

Lets face it, its a touts dream, and the only way the mods could clean it out is if they are reading your private PM's that you probably dont want them reading.

Why don't you think they would send PM's to all the people? I have gotten on various e-mail lists from here. I'm sure, if touts were spamming the PM's at EOG, there would be a big deal over it.

i am a member of another place that has had pm's for about 2 years or so and i have also never received anything not wanted...it only has a little over 12,000 members though..

i personally don't like them much and if they were turned on here i would probably deactivate the function
