<table class="tborder" style="border-top-width: 0px;" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="1" width="100%"><tbody><tr title="Post 4397448" valign="top"><td class="alt1" align="center" width="125">ForgetWallStreet</td><td class="alt2">What's the point? You'd make a couple K at the most. Doesn't seem worth the hassle to me.</td></tr></tbody></table>

and the ones that do know whats going on

<table class="tborder" style="border-top-width: 0px;" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="1" width="100%"><tbody><tr title="Post 4397451" valign="top"><td class="alt1" align="center" width="125">terps1313</td><td class="alt2">I would take them for sure. Being that there are only 5 of them, and are older and experienced, you probably wouldnt be tied up all day on the phone. Figuring each one calls twice a day. Once for the 1st set of games and once for the 2nd set, then you are only taking 10 calls a day.</td></tr></tbody></table>

<table class="tborder" style="border-top-width: 0px;" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="1" width="100%"><tbody><tr title="Post 4397481" valign="top"><td class="alt1" align="center" width="125">VIEJO DINOSAUR</td><td class="alt2">Put them in an offshore office and get a 50-50 sheet or get a make-up sheet..lots of different options with a reputable book...you will never have to answer a phone...</td></tr></tbody></table>

my two cents.....if you have a bankroll......book em....yourself

Alternatively, the top two don't need to pick up every penny on the street.

Pass them along to a local for a fee

Iceman !!

You Should 100% take the Deal !! Can do it a couple of ways....( some which have already been stated )

A-Go the Per Head way...offshore ( only thing is only 5 customers )

B-Go get a Pre Paid Cell Phone ( only the players will have this # )
this way you can have it with you if you need to go out,etc..

C-Go to a Local and get a 50/50 Sheet ( might be able to do it with 5, they like at least 10-15 )

I think that because these guys are just knock around locals, you should go with Plan B.
It might sound like a hassle, but these guys more then likely are Not going to call 20 times on Sat.
No need to worry about any Sharp Lines...Just Square Lines
Clip the newspaper section with the lines, update them when you are in front of your PC, and carry them around with you.

Just some Ideas.....:103631605

HAve a cell phone just for this use. Have them text in the bets. That way all the action would be tagged with the date and time. Just tell them to use that days newspaper for the lines. If they are square as you put it it won't make a difference.

I love it when people are called squares that cracks me up. We are all squares for the most part. Since about 10% of gamblers can make real money.

Five turns into 10, ten turns into twenty, and twenty turns into fifty...within a year and a half with 50 SMALL players, you wouldn't have to work 9-5 again....but remember, it is still a job....

The issue really is pretty simple. If you are willing to invest 10-15 hours per week and the clients are as advertised, you have the opportunity to tap into a true gold mine.

These guys will not beat you on any kind of consistent basis and you will undoubtedly get many referrals of the same type players.

The key will be establishing the parameters (bet size, settlement day, call times, etc.) up front.

Be wary of new players who want to bet large and chase losses. Chances are this type of player is looking for a big score but has no intention of paying a big loss.

You will not be able to take the lines from the newspaper if you hope to maximize your profits. Chances are most of your clients will like the same side of most games, thus giving you the opportunity to obtain an extra 1/2 point advantage on a regular basis.

Good luck.

I agree. Or just get a "pay as you go" phone and have them leave there bets on the machine. That's time stamped also.

Some EXCELLENT stuff in here.

First off I am not going to do this full time. I truly enjoy and have worked hard at what I do now, betting daily. I want to stay on this side of the counter.

Just wonder what pct of bettors end up stiffing books. Seems unavoidable for a bookie. Just doesn't seem like it would be really fun chasing people for money.

I think the whole pay per head thing is a good idea but I wonder what these old school types would feel like calling a 800 number or finding out you can bet off your computer. Almost seems like this might scare some older players.

How have a few of you handled this with the pay per head thing? Have you ran into any bettors feeling uncomfortable using it? Any info or suggestions on these sites?

The only way I may do this is to partner with the bartender, keep it real small and put it on a pay per head site. Let the bartender do all the paying and collecting. Even then probably still too confusing when done with betting and betting will ALWAYS be #1 to me.

I agree 100% with this. Not bragging but I would think with my knowledge and understanding of how most people bet combined with key numbers, my money in books, etc that you could exploit a few things extra. Good call VVV!!!!

Without giving out TOO MUCH Info out in the open..Pay per head is a Great thing ! Let's say you pay $25 a head, they can use the computer or call in.
You have control of your players, You set a Profile for each guy. ( Limits per week, per game, etc. )
You should Try your best to find out what kind of Odds that they would lay on Teasers, etc. ( in the past ) Since these guys are Squares, might be good to start a profile ( as I like to call it ) a SUCKER LINE....Laying higher odds for things like teasers.

Don't worry too much about them calling a 800 number !! Shit, they might even like the Idea, some hide their Betting ways away from the Wife or Girlfriend ! so They can call in from Anywhere !! ( would be a great thing to point out )
" Hey guys, you know...You can Call just about ANYTIME you want, from ANYWHERE you want...and it won't cost you a DIME !!

Think of this also when using Online or Computer ...Some Local's won't even take 2nd half Plays....Tell them...Now you Can !! This place is like open 24/7 !! if you fill like making a play 1am in the morning ! Just log on and place your bet !

Ice...You just need to me a Salesman...or use the guy from the Bar ??Give him your Pitch...and let him tell them....make him feel them out..

Also, let them know that if they want to play the late game, You Can !
Most Local's....No Shot !

They will just Melt with all this !!

Very interesting topic. I did the exact same thing probably about 10 years before the internet explosion. I had between 5 and 10 customers and it went good for nearly two full football seasons. Then at the end of the year, I got screwed over for some cash by one guy and got crushed on New Years Day by the rest of my customers.

Alot of people gave you some good ideas about the phone issues. It does get draining after awhile.

My experience was that --If these guys all hang out together at this bar - they'll probably play most of the same sides etc. If that's the case - it's not $50 or $100 per game. It could be $400 or $500 total on a given side and $0 on the other. While you have the juice edge - those combined amounts can get you destroyed too.

Back when I did it - I couldn't lay off whereas now you probably can do it. I found it really frustrating when they called in sides that you like yourself.

My advice would be either play yourself or book for them. It's really hard to be good at both of them during the same time. This will take away from your handicapping no matter how many safeguards you have to prevent that.

Good luck with whatever you end up deciding.

GREAT THREAD IMO AS FOOTS APROACHES I have taken well over 100 friends/ aquantances action over the years. Currently could take 20 good action players tomorrow and well over a hundred in weeks if I wanted (many high end to boot). THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN BOTHERING ME FOR WEEKS as many a person has been pestering ME to set them up with a local or not so local.
For carreer and personal reasons I'll let them go elsewhere.

THE TIME IS NOW ICE !!! 12 day until real NFL!!!

I know. This has always intrigued me a little. Like I said earlier betting and booking may not mix and I LOVE to bet football and have done real well with it (esp NFL) thru the years. But that +110 adds up big time over the long haul.

it ain't rocket science, Ice.....don't complicate it with text messages, bartender,etc......it's a small business...you make a commitment to invest your time and money.......chances are, you'll get enough action from them if they play a buck or two a game plus the college stuff in the week....it's gonna be a part time job, but you'll get paid WELL.....quit if they keep beatin you........simple.......end of story

Put them in an offshore office and get a 50-50 sheet or get a make-up sheet..lots of different options with a reputable book...you will never have to answer a phone...

what he said

buddy of mine started out the same way when he was a bartender about 5 years ago. He's in the carpet biz now. works 1-2 days a week to pay his bills, but those 5 square bettors now number about 50.....most like to play parlays:missingte...he said he clears about 10K a season with them.
he has them at a PPH shop, but if you can get a 50/50 sheet at a top book go for it.

but beware. if you get a couple guys who go on a tear (likely) and a few guys who are slow paying you, can put a clamp on the bankroll.

you shouldn't have a problem getting fixed right up on here.

Book em Rudy!

Old schoolers tend to pay, and not hassle you. If your bankroll is short, give them the limits up front, dont spring that on them when a guy is stuck and wants to swing at you on Monday night.
