If you had a chance to book 5 RELIABLE older square bettors, would you?

HAve a cell phone just for this use. Have them text in the bets. That way all the action would be tagged with the date and time. Just tell them to use that days newspaper for the lines. If they are square as you put it it won't make a difference.

I love it when people are called squares that cracks me up. We are all squares for the most part. Since about 10% of gamblers can make real money.

Good idea but old guys don't text...

Five turns into 10, ten turns into twenty, and twenty turns into fifty...

You read my mind. If you're going to make the jump and go from the gray area(player) to clearly illegal(booking), I doubt you'd stick to those 5.

Put them in a PPH place & I'd have to think that you're somewhat distanced from trouble(but I'm no expert on that front).

You could send them to betrose and you in effect woud be thier agent. No answering calls. You would have to do the collecting and payouts for a percentage of their losses.

win or lose, settle up every week(no carry over) this limits the stiffing part.

after putting some thought into this, this would be far away the #1 negative with doing this. Collecting isn't something I would be good at. I guess you get use to it or hire someone to do it for you.

Anyone have any pointers on the collecting aspect? Get paid Tuesday, pay off on Wednesday seems to be the industry standard. Do it every week. Can't really put a set figure to settle at or a few stiffs will get within $20 dollars and quit paying. Maybe hire a guy too do it. What is the rate you pay someone for this? Is there an easy way to handle this aspect of it? Thinking of collecting every week makes me cringe.

I think Rocky Balboa is down on his luck and may be willing to collect.

Edit you could enlist the Bartenders help.

I think you're nuts to book these guys. First off, you're breaking the law by booking them. They can seize assets if they wanted to make an example of you. Secondly, what you can make off them is limited, but your exposure is unlimited. I know that you're a $200 to $300 bettor. If a couple of these guys gets hot, they can bring you to your knees. It happens. Also, they might not be as "square" as you think. Another question I would ask is why are these guys looking for a credit out when they can simply post up somewhere, get bonuses and bet 24/7 with customer service. Booking a handful of guys isn't worth the hassle involved, especially when the hassle of P & C is involved. Either be a bettor or a bookie...make up your mind, Iceman. If you're going to book, don't do it halfway.

There are risks being a player or a book...pick your poison...been on both ends during my gambling days...safer being a player, but more rewarding being an agent or book...gotta know your players...

Reliable lower-to-middle class square credit bettors are few and far between these days. Anyone worth a shit is already posted up somewhere.

You think? I sure as hell wouldn't be booking 5 guys I didn't know from some hole-in-the-wall bar.

What are you saying???

I'm saying it's not worth it to book the Fabulous Five, all variables considered. But, it won't hurt my feelings if anyone disagrees. I'm just giving out PROFESSIONAL advice for free today, out of the goodness of my heart.

I'll admit it. I've done it for 20 years and It's worth it.

I'm not saying it can't be worth it to book. I said go all the way with it or don't do it at all. There's a right way to do things, and a wrong way to do things. When you're dealing with 4 or 5 guys, not worth it, IMO.

Having 4 or 5 guys betting up to $300 is a wet dream!!!! If they're teaser bettors, even wetter. The guys who are going to kill you are dime bettors and up who play one to two games a night. The only time you have to be super careful is booking baseball. Guys who know how to bet baseball can beat you up pretty good so don't bother with it.

Forget about Iceman booking dime bettors...he wouldn't be able to sleep at night, win or lose. As far as $300 bettors go, you'll have to give them at least a $2000 to $2500 cap. With 5 players you're extending 10 to 15 dimes credit, at least, on a given day. I'd have to know these guys pretty good to give them that kind of a leash. Iceman has already explained that he feels a little inhibited about the collection part. I think it would adversely affect his gambling as well, by diverting energy and creating a distraction.
