There's not much in the NL standing in their way...in fact MLB is pretty mediocre all the sudden.

Should Padres hold on to win pathetic NL West, I like their chances in a short series vs Cards. Healthy Peavy, Eaton, & Williams and best bullpen in NL + whomever Pads add before trade deadline (discount this if they add nobody as vets and city will be deflated and team will crap out)

d2,

We had bet tickets to the Cards/Cubs tix for this year and the second bet was buying a night of drinking. It is no big deal. But I can't bet with you on this but would take the bet if I could. Best of luck to your Cubs and since now that you at least offered to bet , I now know I can take it to the house as it will happen like every other disagreement or bet we have made. If you need me to pull up the posts I will see how far back I can go to pull it up but it is no big deal to me. I respect your Cub loyalty but need a big dose of reality that this team needs to make wholesale changes and I could n't even tell you where to begin. I guess it is wait till next year time!

Well I owe ya then. Hopefully we can make it happen sometime and you can be right over me in person. :toast:

Cubs and Cards have 14 of the last 67 games left against each other. Just the way it should be. If the Cubs are going to have a shot at the WC they'll have to have success vs. St Lou.

Cubs realistically have to win 10 of those 14.

Kojak,

Hopefully you are right about them, as I have them to win the N.L. as well as teh World Series. Check for the thread that I started last week about them.

Here is my feeling on all the naysayers on the Cardinals: I have never seen a team that has won as many games as this team get such disrespect from fans from other teams. Not even the Yanks who lost 4 straight after being up 3-0 have gotten ridiculed this bad. All I can say is we were outplayed by the Red Sox and they deserved it. But when fans from the Cubs,Stros,Braves, and others who did not even get to WS jump on the bandwagon of bashing Cards I feel it is ridiculous. I have read threads on this board and others and is the same. If the Cubs win one game or the Yanks win a series they are going all the way while Cards record is 164-79 in regular season last two years to date and 7-4 in NL playoffs to make WS could keep on winning and it is they played a bad team. Last time I checked others are playing these teams and are not winning. Nationals lost 3 of 4 in Milwaukee this weekend, Yanks got swept in Kansas City, lost 2 of 3 in MIlw, 3 of 4 to Devil Rays, Padres have been getting beaten fairly consistenly as well, anyway you get the picture. The only way this team is going to get the respect they deserve is to win the WS. I hope everyone continues to doubt as it is only going to add fuel to the fire. Cards have not even played their best baseball yet. Only injuries will stop this team.

D2,

If you want to get together for game, Cards are in town week before RX Bash Aug 11-14. Tickets can be gotten fairly easily on stubhub. If you want to make good pick a day and let me know. Anyway, rivalry is always better when both teams are good. Makes braggin rights that much sweeter. :toast:

Just got home from STL for the weekend...of couse went and saw the birds dominate!

In his last eight starts, beginning with a victory at Houston on June 3, Carpenter (14-4) has allowed only five runs in 64 2/3 innings for a 0.70 ERA. This was his third shutout in that span, and his fourth of the season

WOW...someone laughed at me preseason when I said he's an ace of this staff. Nobody better in the league right now...faced 28 batters today...i recall him facing that many about a month ago too...no hitter next on the list!

spreadbeater,

Went back and looked for your thread. If you bump it I would be interested in checking it out.

viking,
There is no one better than Carpenter right now. People on east coast and west may not follow as closely as we do but he is Mr. Automatic. No doubt about it. In fact I am having hard time remembering Cards giving up even 5 runs in a game in quite a while. It has been at least 3 weeks!

Kruser,
Fish was implying that I said Cards would win WS but if he goes back and looks I only said they would get there and laid off any games or series predictions. Anyway, he should be happy about ly but it will be different this year!

yes Kojak, low scoring games as of late...not good when you have all you can eat/drink tickets as i did on saturday and the game was about 2 hour 15 minutes. One hour 59 min today so the pitching is saving Busch some beer consumption in those sections!!

Cards fans are forgetting that this is the era of the extremely unbalanced schedule; it's possible to have a puffed-up record due to being in a weak division. I believe the Cards are something like 28-23 outside their division, not a powerhouse record.

So you guys are saying if game seven of the world series was forthcoming you and you could have any pitcher you would take Carpenter. That is some funny shit. 10000 comedians out of work and we get Kojak and Viking.

Lets not forget the good fortune of playing the Royals in interleague play. This is a fine team don't get me wrong but some of this nonsense in this thread is ridiculous.

vs Blue Jays 1 of 3

in my book that is 24 out of 39 vs teams over .500

Not too bad in my book!

Unfortunately, the Jays are no longer over .500, getting swept this weekend by the D-Rays and getting generally kicked around since Halliday's injury.

This fact, however, improves your argument on behalf of the Cards, as the Cards have a losing record vs. the under-.500 Jays. Cards are then 23 of 36 vs over-.500 teams.

Royalfan,

Seriously how can say Cards had advantage when they turned down playing a second series vs Royals this year. They played 3 games. I guess than you can say Yanks are a joke because you swept them! All you can do is play the games on the schedule that the league provides and go from there. Nothing more or less. If you look at every team you can find chink in the armor or a bad series or two. You need to find something better than they played an easy schedule for your arguement as it is weak!

Belchone,

For arguement's sake, why don't you put together the record of all the credible teams and lets see what their record is vs .500 or better before we talk about the Cards. If the Cards are at the bottom of the list I will grant your point, but I see no evidence of others to compare at this point.
