I think it was BillHill who said Bush would have 3 returns for td's and Mario would have 3 total sacks at the end of the year. After 1 game, 2-0 Mario.

Maybe Bush should concentrate on football instead of commercials. The man has done nothing and yet his face is constantly on T.V. Peyton is always on T.V. but at least he's accomplished something in his career.

Who knows? I feel that they will be pretty good. 2 years ago when guys like me got killed it was because there were 4 pro teams that you could not give enough points to. Houston was 1 of them. So I really hope for some parity.

Texans 20, Chiefs 3: What does it mean? (w/ grades, video)

Now, it's about 12:30, and I'm home writing this wrap-up blog and trying to figure out just what the Texans' victory over Kansas City means. Or what it could mean, actually.
I'm not ready to punch my ticket to the playoffs yet, but from watching the Texans, I feel better about my 8-8 prediction.

Those of you with the glass-is-half-empty philosophy will say something like this: The Texans should have won the game decisively. Last week was the first time the Chiefs had their regular offense together on the practice field. It showed. Larry Johnson looked like a back with only two carries in preseason. Damon Huard looked like a quarterback who took only 13 preseason snaps.
Left tackle Damion McIntosh looked like a player who'd been out with a knee injury. The Chiefs lost their best wideout, Eddie Kennison, early in the game with a hamstring injury. They were missing their best pass rusher, suspended defensive end Jared Allen. Their rookie kicker was so bad that they brought in six potential replacements a week ago. No wonder he blew a 30-yarder.
Those of you with the glass-is-half-full philosophy will say something like this: Matt Schaub (16-of-22 for 225 yards) made an exceptional debut as the Texans' starter. It was only the third start of his career, so it wasn't surprising he tried to force a pass to Andre Johnson in the end zone and had it intercepted.
Schaub threw seven completions to Andre Johnson for 142 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown. Ahman Green carried 16 times for 73 yards, a 4.6-yard average.
The defense was tremendous, limiting the Chiefs to 219 yards. Johnson had 43 yards on 10 carries. Huard threw for 168 yards, was intercepted twice and was sacked three times.
Mario Williams was a monster — as Megan Manfull reports in today's print edition — who couldn't be stopped in the third quarter. He had two sacks and returned a fumble 38 yards for a touchdown. He also had five tackles, including four unassisted.
Williams was just one reason the defensive line was excellent. Travis Johnson played the run well and intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter.
Overall, it was a superb effort by the defense. And the special teams contributed by watching Charlie Anderson recover a fumble and having Matt Turk average 55 yards on three punts.

Travis Johnson and the defensive line picked up an "A." See the grades below.
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
The only bad news involved strong safety Jason Simmons, who is gone for the season after rupturing a tendon in his knee. Von Hutchins played well off the bench. I don't know about you, but I'm eager to see what Hutchins can do on a regular basis. He played well in preseason.
Hutchins and C.C. Brown will start. I think Michael Boulware will come off the bench against the Panthers. Each week, he'll do a little more as he gets more comfortable with the Texans' defense.
So what does it all mean? Well, the Texans go on the road to play the Panthers. Jake Delhomme played very well in Carolina's victory at St. Louis. No reason to be interested in hearing what David Carr has to say, right? Wrong! We definitely want to know how Carr's pulse is beating this week.
If the Texans lose to the Panthers, they'll return home to play the Colts at 1-1. But what if they pull an upset at Carolina and are 2-0 going into the third game at home against Indianapolis? Can you imagine that? It's probably not going to happen, of course, but, man, what if it did?
Let's not get carried away. It was one victory. But what a sweet one it was, huh? Texans grades for Week 1

QUARTERBACK: B+
A terrific debut by Matt Schaub, who threw a touchdown pass and was intercepted in the end zone.

Johnny B, what has Bush done yet except make many, many commercials. I would rather have a stud on the defensive line than Bush. Lets wait a few years to find out what type of player he will become. Wasn't Reggie White in the USFL before the NFL?

Whatever you need to say to convince yourself that Williams was the right pick. Deep down you know you're deluding yourself.

Williams was not the $$ pick in that draft. It seems like every so often a team picks a player to put fans in the seats and IMO Bush is/was that man. The Texans didnt need a RB/WR they needed help on Defense. From what I have read in the papers here the Texans drafted Williams because they thought he would be an anchor in a good D...its still only his 2nd game in his 2nd season...but he has the ability to be that guy. Only time will tell...

Ron Dayne needs to get hurt or something, because I think Green can be a huge guy for that offense. Plus he's on my squad.

Well i am watching them on TV right now. They do look pretty good, but it could be more of how carolina sucks real bad.

They are running an "old school" Denver Broncos style offense and it is working

Green and Walter score for 31-14 lead
As Butch said to Sundance, "Who are those guys?"

What must David Carr be thinking watching on the home-team sidelines. The Texans' defense stuffed the Panthers on three plays, and the offense just went 56 yards in five plays to score another touchdown — this time on Ahman Green's 13-yard run.

That's 24 consecutive points for the Texans after falling behind 24-14. Green had a huge hole provided by Eric Winston and Fred Weary. The crowd is booing the Panthers' defense and offense.

Matt Schaub threw a 20-yard pass to Andre Johnson and an 11-yarder to Owen Daniels. Green could have walked in for the touchdown that gave them a 10-point lead less than five minutes into the third quarter.

Hey, what's this: DeMarcus Faggins and Michael Boulware have just forced a fumble on Nick Goings' kickoff return, and Kevin Walter has been given credit for recovering the fumble in the end zone for the touchdown. Panthers coach John Fox is challenging the touchdown call, hoping that Walter was out of bounds before he fell on the ball.

By the way, Schaub is 19-of-24 for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Green has 14 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown. We're still not five minutes into the quarter.

The replay official just let the play stand, and Walter has given the Texans a 31-14 lead with 11:16 left in the third quarter. That's 31 consecutive points. That should take the Panthers out of the running game and force Jake Delhomme to throw, which means the pass rushers should be able to tee off.

The fans are booing. Let's see what the Texans' defense can do.

Well I am HARDLY on the bandwagon, but I will attend 2 games this year at Reliant Stadium. The Cowboys are still my team!

But I have changed course with the Texans a bit. Last week I bet on KC and took them in the journeyman NFL contest.

Well this week if you notice, I took Houston in the JMAN contest. I did like the defense last week

Texans score team-record 34 points

The Texans' defense continues to dominate as the stadium slowly empties. With 11:43 left, the stands are half-empty. What fans are left are booing like crazy.

On the previous series, Dunta Robinson itnercepted Jake Delhomme. David Carr still isn't warming up — no matter how hard we wish for it.

On the next series, safety Will Demps stripped the ball from DeShon Foster, and C.C. Brown recovered at the Carolina 45.

Andre Johnson just got helped off after catching another pass over the middle. It's fourth-and-one at the Panthers' 22. Gary Kubiak is going for it. He's been very aggressive today, which shows the players he's got confidence in them.

Ron Dayne just ran for 2 yards for a first down. The offensive linemen are getting to drive block. It's not pretty, but the Texans are getting yards when they need them. The idea is to control the clock for the second consecutive game.

Kris Brown just kicked his second field goal. This one was good from 33 yards, making it 34-14. That's a franchise record for points, and there's still 9:07 left. It's also a team record for consecutive points.
Man, oh, man, can you believe it?
