Brewers lost their bullpen when Cordero blew them off to go with the.....Reds?? Why?
So they picked up Gagne, and two days later he was splashed across the Mitchell Report. Then they picked up Torres from the Pirates, who threatened to retire, but is in camp.
In the first day of camp, promising youngster Yovani Gallardo reports he has a torn cartilage and will miss four weeks. Likely on the DL when the season opens.
Brewers got rid of Jenkins, who was a trooper through all the bad years, but definitely has lost it, especially against lefties. Still an above-average fielder.
Then the Brewers picked up Mike Cameron, who will miss the first 25 games because he's addicted to greenies. Maybe he won't need them if he takes off the first 25 games.
So they have to move Bill Hall from centerfield to third, just a year after they moved him from the infield to centerfield.
Hall will play third, moving Ryan Braun to left, where Jenkins played most of the time. Braun is in the outfield to allow at least three guys to field his errant throws. the guy is an offensive force but committed 32 errors in about 3/4's of a season. Pick him early in fantasy drafts. Might be a 45 HR, 130 RBI type if moving to the outfield doesn't make him a wack job.
Brewers will be a force in the NL if Ben Sheets stays healthy and the bullpen comes together.
With Fielder at first, a healthy Rickie Weeks at 2B (great middle-round fantasy pick who will lead off), Hardy at ss, Corey Hart in RF and Braun, the Brewers will score plenty of runs.
Should be a fun year at Miller Park.
