I am thinking about going to Harrahs New Orleans for the WSOP-Circuit in mid May and may take the gf. It appears taht the hotel attached to the casino is all suites or super nice rooms and over $350 a night, I don't really want to pay that. There is a Hilton and a doubletree across the street... are those like right across the street ie a minute walk and in a safe neighborhood. Is the casino within safe walking distance to nice restaurants?

Yes its all safe in the French Quarter where harrahs is located. Doubletree is not not far at all from Harrahs.

There are about 1000 places to eat around there.

Make sure you eat a dragos next to the Hilton.
Its the place place I have ever eaten in my life.

Get the Oysters, the cooked ones. You wont regret it.

See you there.

Safety shouldn't be a problem-it's right the heart of downtown & quite close to Bourbon street. Lot of people & a lot of cops around pretty much all the time.

I stayed here a few weeks ago and LOVED it, the heart of the french quarter, no better place to spend some time, food, fun everywhere you look.

Spent four nights there for the ArenaBowl last year and I'm looking forward to going back again this July. Ate at a great steakhouse right there next to Harrahs, but I don't remember what it was called.

I stayed in the JW Marriott, which is right across the street from another Marriott and a Sheraton. All three hotel staffs were incredible.

Oh, and down on Bourbon Street there's a bar with a hand grenade doll outside... be very careful of his drinks... Three hand grenades later, and I'm still trying to figure out how I got back to the hotel that night.

I don't think the gf would like staying there by herself while I'm playing a tourney, which I probably will one or two days while she is there.

Good stuff here. Funny coincidence because as I read this post I was checking my harrahs online offers because I am going there in July. The Doubletree is directly across the street towards Bourbon Street and the Hilton is across the street on the other side towards the Mississippi River. I prefer staying in the Hilton because it is close enough to Bourbon Street but I always end up in the casino late night and I like being close to my hotel when I leave the casino at 3 or 4 AM.
