- - Left off Finau, Snedeker and Wagner . . . Looking at skinny profits at best next week with mostly short-priced favorites in my stable, but found plenty of bigger prices that appeal this week.

Outrights:

Rory McIlroy(10/1) e.w.
- - If he holes out well early, then his putting will be something top shelf all week, and he’s in the Top 5 all weekend.

Bubba Watson(18/1) e.w.
- - I’ll call this insurance against. I expect he will bring some game and is a real threat, but I can easily name 30+ players I would be rooting for instead down the stretch.

Phil Mickelson(18/1) e.w.
- - I think Lefty appreciates that at 47 years old there will not be a lot more occasions when his game is peaking around these cherished grounds.

Alex Noren(50/1) e.w.
- -
Noren(50/1) e.w. for The Masters
- - Not keen on his propensity at Augusta, just expect he will be near his best.

Justin Rose(14/1) e.w.
- - Must be the return to the same venue every year that creates a history in this major of bridesmaids delivering strong efforts the following year.

Ian Poulter(55/1) e.w.
- - I’m struggling to see value past some yet to form cadre of market leaders emerging by Sunday, so any of my more speculative plays get relegated to the specialty markets, or hopefully in-running. But there is a decent tradition of last-in winners having a great week at Augusta, so these skinny odds on a valedictory moment appeal more than the equally skinny 22/1 for Paul Casey.

Brian Harman(66/1) e.w. 1st Round Leader
- - http://www.golf.com/tour-news/2018/...or-expectations-feeling-comfortable-on-course Go Dawgs!

Kyle Stanley(90/1) e.w. Top American
- - His long absence from the big events offers huge appeal in my betting catechism, even though I’d prefer a test built more on technical ability than feel, creativity and experience.

Jimmy Walker(80/1) e.w. Top American
- - There’s something intriguing there. Brian Harman and Chez Reavie also considered.

Rafael Cabrero Bello(30/1) e.w. Top European
- - That’s enough. His best stuff comes in stretches.

Since Brett Rumford(80/1) won Ballantines in April of 2013 (followed by 40/1 the next week), I can’t recall anyone with greater odds carrying my cash across the finish line. And probably only 1 of maybe 10 wagers I’ve ever cashed at odds of 100/1 or greater since 2001 . . . Also enhances a definite propensity for above average weeks immediately after one of the four men's majors, when the capping motivation isn't always there, but the ANGLES and INFORMATION are at a peak . . . Getting the job finished on a Saturday was a nice touch . . . Very pleased.

Thanks, BZ. It's good for the motivation, and the account balance.

With the exception of a couple of winners at Colonial, I don’t remember having much success with events in Texas. Looking for an edge (and encouraged by the taste of a big score last week), I started my capping early this week. So far my Texas team includes Jimmy Walker(55/1) and Ryan Palmer(55/1), and I can’t shake a liking for Bill Haas(66/1) . . . In early capping for Morocco, I started by thinking I was nicely encouraged that Matteo Manassero had a pretty good and consistent week at a birdie-fest venue I didn’t think would suit him (so much so that I passed on a play last week I otherwise might have liked after the three time Masters participant spent recent weeks far removed from those proceedings). But then I got to wondering whether there even is a venue that might suit Matteo these days, and maybe spacious and forgiving off the tee is his current ideal, and that his low place has taken him to places so dark and fragile that coveting for a return for the big stages of Augusta is far removed from his mindset. In any event, while winning seems unlikely in the immediate future, he has been taking some steps forward that has me expecting he is due and overdue for a serious jump beyond his season best finish of 30th place. Then finding that his 25th birthday is on Thursday, that sealed my fate so that there was really no chance I’d pass on some 200/1 e.w. speculation while dreaming of a back-to-back score after Steve Flesch at 100/1.
