I'm sure details will come out as to how what the process was to lead KD back on the court but I don't think it was just a matter of the team doctors saying he is good to go and him taking that at face value. Superstar NBA player is gonna get 2nd and 3rd opinions and probably had formed a consensus that he could play beyond just what the GS staff told him. This isn't some 4th rd running back where the team says hey, you're good to go and he has no choice but to take them at face value.

As far as his playing style, that was what really surprised me. I figured he would just play D, come off screens, shoot 3's, score in transition. Can't believe they had him playing 10 of the first 12 minutes and trying to create offense. That was the dumb part.

They were lying the whole time about it being a calf injury. A medic friend of mine was watching that original game against the Rockets & he text me right when it happened & said definitely an Achilles injury. After what happened last night, just proves that was what it was the whole time.

This definitely changes everything as does he now not opt out of his contract?

I dunno what he'll do but I think teams like Brooklyn and NYK would still offer him a full max. Punt a year and hope he can return close to form in 2020-2021. It's Kevin Durant we're talking about, guys like him don't grow on trees. Worth the gamble.

Aside from that though, I think this makes it more likely he stays with the Warriors but my main point is I don't see this impacting his future financially very much.

Doctors stopping players from competing? Kinda reminds me of the concussion protocol bs in the NFL. However I don’t recall too many concussions last season where they kept playing

Nobody even knows what the injury really even was at first. Was it a torn calf? No one knows. They didn’t specify.

Kwrr said he would play in bursts. More lies.

What i think is he wanted to show his loyalty and he didn’t reach out to outsider doctors. He went with what the team doctors told him and he felt he could shoot, run, cut. But the problem is there’s nothing like game action. Teams are not practicing right now. Light shoot arounds. Unless he played in a full scrimmage and felt great I’m not sure really how they can justify this. But with what I saw...he was barely half speed. He wasn’t moving like himself. That’s why all his shots were pull up jumpers.

The Golden st warriors failed him. He has a good attitude to not fault them for anything. I thought he would always come back for the series because he wanted to show his loyalty. But if his calf was torn, NO doctors should have cleared him to play after 5 weeks.

It was desperation by the organization. If the warriors were up 3-1....Would the doctors have cleared him then? Same time frame just different circumstances.

I think we these injuries it's hard to tell when to come back. The same with hamstrings and quads and sometimes sprains. I'm sure if it were November he would have taken an extra week or two to be sure. This was game 5 of the finals facing elimination. I'm sure he passed all the texts and they were checking off all the boxes. All those videos of him pregame dancing and jumping in the tunnels and the pregame monster dunk. I'm sure he was feeling pretty healthy and glad to be back out there.

The guys wasn't limping around out there at all. He looked good out there. Kawaui was limping around noticebly for two rounds!

The doctors probably knew it was on the early side. But everything was probably showing as just fine on the MRI's . He was probably passing the physical tests. So everyone together probably decided it was worth the risk.

Well, yeah obviously the team pushed him to comeback since it was to their benefit and there was likely a thought he is leaving anyway but keep in mind, he had A TON of personal incentive to do so as well. Down 3-1 and he comes back and they win is just an awesome setup for his brand/legacy/reputation. Can't write it any better than that. So there was a lot of external pressure that probably had little to do with the Warriors pressuring him or him wanting to do them a solid.

I'd never question if a guy can/can't play but I'm not sure he has the same urgency to get back out there if they're up 3-1 either.

It was kinda a mindfuck situation for him, very tempting to wanna get in on that independent of what others were pushing him to do.

Well let's think about this for a second.

He got injured against the Rockets and I imagine the first thing the team did was get an MRI right? Am I missing that part? So, if the MRI came back negative and it was a strain or pulled muscle or whatever, I assume KD was getting therapy all day long for the last five or so weeks.

Now fast forward to last night. Let's assume his MRI was negative and he was sore and the Warriors were down 3-1, I can see a scenario where both the team and KD wanted to give it a shot.

I can't see a scenario where KD was out there with anything more than a pulled muscle. They certainly weren't running him out there with some serious injury that could jeopardize his career.

I can't see that.

I mean, was his achilles torn before the game? No. Was his calf muscle torn? I guess that's the real question right?

I was assuming the same thing. A strained muscle doesnt sound too risky but perhaps it puts someone at an increased risk of an Achilles tear especially with the torque those guys are putting on their bodies

This is exactly what I am thinking. So, let's assume he had a strained muscle and tried to play through the injury...it's now just an unfortunate achilles tear. I'm not saying this is what happened as I think we need to get more information to form an educated decision.

But put LeBron in the same situation. Say he had a muscle strain and the Cavs, Lakers or Heat were down 3-1 in the NBA Finals. The fans and media would crucify him for not playing in the game.

And the Toronto fans were cheering when he was injured. It shows the city has no class.
