I have to go to Tijuana very soon to apply for a work permit, and the may not let me back into the USA.

My folks have a house in Canun at the moment.

hence the question.

If they dont let me back in I will probably just have my car towed and will take a plan from TJ to CANCUN, but I thought I would ask.

I think the descriptions of the danger are highly exaggerated.

They aren't being exaggerated. Take the plane. If you go by car you may possibly be gang-raped and shot to death - this would be the good alternative too.

More than 15K drug-related deaths in Mexico in 2010. Maybe those numbers are exaggerated?

a huge percentage of those numbers are dealers against dealers in drug wars... as u say "drug related deaths"...

I dont plan on doing drugs or being involved with them.

Personally, I wouldn't drive that trip for a million dollars. I may be wrong, but I am assuming you are white - if so you can forget about getting through without any hassles. Basically everyone here is telling you to forget about driving it, but you seem to just be shrugging it all off - just go ahead and do it then...prob less than a 50% chance something bad will happen. You willing to chance it?

I don't understand why you even asked. Seems like you're going to do it no matter what we say.

Good luck to you!

51 executed in Mexico drug violence
(AFP) – Jan 9, 2011

MEXICO CITY — Drug-related violence over the weekend claimed 51 lives across Mexico, including 15 decapitations in the beach resort of Acapulco, authorities reported.

The beheadings, mutilations, drive-by shootings and summary executions were carried out in southeastern Guerrero and northern Chihuahua states, as well as in the Mexican capital, despite the government's five-year, 50,000-troop crackdown on organized crime.

By far the grisliest scene unfolded Saturday at an Acapulco shopping center where the decapitated bodies of 15 men were found on the sidewalk, with their severed heads bunched nearby. Two of the victims were 17 years old, a Guerrero official said.

It was the worst mass decapitation since August 2008, when 12 headless bodies were found in eastern Yucatan state capital Merida, in a crime attributed to the notorious Los Zetas drug cartel.

Another six murder victims were found Saturday in Acapulco stuffed inside a taxi near a supermarket, and four other men were murdered in two separate incidents in the city, Guerrero state police said.

On Sunday, Acapulco officials said police found three more bodies, including one that was decapitated and mutilated, on the side of a road near the city. Media reports said the victims were among 10 people kidnapped late Saturday from a local discotheque.

In Mexico's most violent state of Chihuahua that borders the United States, authorities reported 17 people murdered over the weekend, 14 of them in Ciudad Juarez -- across from El Paso, Texas -- which has the highest murder rate in the country.

In Mexico City, four young men were killed in a drive by shooting late Saturday outside a grocery store, city officials said.

The latest killings bore the hallmarks of the vicious gangland slayings that have terrorized large areas of Mexico as drug cartels battle it out among themselves and with security forces.

More than 30,000 people have been killed since 2006 when the government of President Felipe Calderon launched a major military crackdown against the drug gangs. Last year alone, a record 12,000 murders were blamed on the drug violence.

You're going to work in TJ ! doing what ?

Don't you have to get back to Canada at some point for the divorce ?

GL, I wouldn't drive it either, but have never gone past TJ myself.

Do you find it odd that you are the only person in this thread that actually thinks this drive is doable? This includes people that have done it or know someone that has done it or actually lives there? That's very odd to me.

I'm just a poster giving my opinion as well and when I gave that opinion you told me I sit on the couch and read the newspaper and have no idea what I'm talking about. You are wrong...period. Move on.

I'm not suggesting anyone to do anything or is telling anyone here what is doable. I just mentioned on what i did, and if you did do this, my suggestion would be don't drive all the way across Mexico to get to your destination. Why go from TJ to Cancun ? Why not leave SD and drive to Brownsville and cross over and go straight south,if your going to do this. Your eliminating half of the drive in Mexico, most of the border towns, and Mexico City, and probably 2/3 of the risk. Isn't this useful info ? Didn't he ask if anyone has done it ? You haven't, I have ! You would assume if he has a thread up like this, that this drive is being contemplated. With that being said, wouldn't some suggestions be appreciated ? Not sure why you have to keep arguing this ! I'm sure he has people telling him not to go, so not sure your influence is what he is looking for. I'm not suggesting for him to go either, but If he is, he can make this alot easier. You need to move on ! Like I said , he can read the newspaper too if he needs to know about the killings.

Carry on with your infatuation with everything that I post. It's sad you're still bitter over losing the National Championship game. And oh by the way, I'm not arguing anything. There's nothing to argue about. Any person that willingly drives (as a foreginer) in Mexico right now is as dumb as those idiot hikers in the mountains of Iraq/Iran.

keep thinking whatever you want, I'm not bitter about anything, dude, I made decent money on the game by hedging my 33/1 bet. I posted that to you in Coll forum. I guess you can't find it. Not infatuated with anything either, you quoted me first ! if you would like to go over the thread again. Like I said, nowhere did I suggest anyone do anything, just stated the info and experience I have. Why don't you ask Sportsvant himself, on who has provided him with the info he is looking for ?

(CNN) -- At least 14 people were killed in 48 hours in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, including the Tuesday deaths of a municipal police officer and a newspaper vendor who police believe was targeted because of her job.

In a statement Tuesday, federal police said they believed the female newspaper vendor was targeted by an area gang because she was seen as a threat to the gang's control of street vendors.

"La Linea thought she was discriminating against newspaper vendors they were extorting," municipal police spokesman Adrian Sanchez said.

The woman, identified as Maribel Hernandez, distributed the El Diario de Juarez newspaper, the most widely circulated paper in the city.

Police said they had arrested a suspect who told them he was paid about $250 for the killing.

Also Tuesday, municipal police officer Ciro Puga Cruz, 39, was killed after armed gunmen shot him 15 times at a crowded intersection while his car stopped at a red light.

The killing happened in front of dozens of people and caused panic, said journalist Arturo Chacon who was at the scene.

The brazen shooting occurred after the officer left the police station at the end of his shift, Sanchez said.

The shooters fled the scene and are still at large, police said.

More than 100 police officers were killed in 2010, 67 of which were municipal, according to Sanchez.

SS - Aren't you better off driving up to Vancouver and crossing back into Canada to get your permit? Or for that matter fly into Vancouver, Detroit or even Buffalo? I'd think you would have a better option if you did that.

I sure wouldn't do this with Canadian plates in Mexico, seems that would stand out as a target ? California plates are bad enough, let alone Ontario or wherever.

His plates, car and skin color would stand out like a turd in a punch bowl.
