The NHL paid out 1.2M to the girl killed by a puck that went into the stands and hit her in the temple.

A woman was hit in the back of the head by a foul ball in Monday night's Cubs-Pirates game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
The woman was standing in the first row behind home plate with her back toward the field when Castro fouled a ball straight back against the protective screen. The ball was hit with such force that it struck the fan. She immediately collapsed grabbing her head.
After initial treatment by PNC Park and Pittsburgh EMS personnel, she was placed on a stretcher, moved to a nearby ambulance and brought to the hospital for further treatment. She was conscious and alert at the time of transport, graciously thanking her caregivers while giving a “thumbs up” gesture to nearby fans.
The game was delayed 23 minutes while she received medical attention.
There was no immediate word on the state of her condition.

im no lawyer but the video shows her not paying attention which is clearly the number one rule as a fan of baseball so someone should sue her for delaying the game almost a half hour

You're not much of a person it would seem either.

Any update on this woman's condition? I was flipping back and forth to that game to monitor a play and happened to tune in right during that pitch.

It was pretty disturbing to watch her topple over like she did after she got blasted. I really thought she may have died. She was in the front row but it didn't look like she was leaning against the nets...it looked like the ball went through it. This isn't the first time this has happened at an MLB game...will be curious to see how it gets resolved.

There is a disclaimer on the back of all tickets. She should not have had her back to the play that close to the net. Nets aren't stretched to act like trampolines. Human instinct should tell you not to stand with your back to the play that close. When I sit close to the field I'm always telling people to pay attention. It's not football. Even home run balls can damage your ass.

There are always exceptions to everything. I'm sure if she decides to sue, her attorney will argue that although there was a protective net, it didn't do what it was designed to do. Did her ticket say to stand at least two feet away from the net? Was it reasonable to expect that you could still get hit in the head with the protective net in place?

One would think that PNC park will step up and cover her medical costs. Who knows how this will end.

She pretty much has to Sue, doesn't she? Net may have not been operating properly...among other things a lawyerly mind would think of. Why wouldn't she sue other than potential legal costs? I'd reckon there'd be lawyers lining up to take the case Pro Bono. For the potential of publicity, getting their name on TV, head in front of a camera. I can't think of any sensible reason she wouldn't sue. Easy out of court settlement, as others have alluded to. MLB don't want the negative PR of a court battle with a woman who got knocked in the head by a baseball.

Wouldn't MLB's insurance cover a payout anyways?

Possible this Lady & her lawyer make 300,000 or so from this. Surely not more than that....yes?

...If the girl who died after being nailed by the hockey puck only got 1.2 Million, well....her family got that.

This is a big story in Pittsburgh. Every news channel had it on this morning.
I don't know what the odds are of your head being in the 3-4 inch slack area of the net at exactly the moment a foul ball hits that same spot, but they have to be pretty high.

She should have had the Rescue stop on the way to the Hospital so she could play the lottery.

The net failed to do it's job though. If you're unwilling to cut her some slack based on the Presumption of Safety she should naturally have expecting the net to do it's job then you indite everyone sitting behind that net for the same "stupid decision"....presuming that the net will function as it should. You may say "she was stupid to turn her back" but you'll get told she did so based on confidence the net would do it's job.

The best thing that net could do right now is gather together as much money as it can get it's hands on get a passport, a fake beard and mustache and a White Bronco and make a run for it.
