Wow !!!! 6 of the top 10 schools are in the Southeastern Conference...……..and the beat goes on.

Highest P12 school at #12.

Trend lines paint a disturbing picture for the Pac-12

https://footballscoop.com/news/trend-lines-paint-a-disturbing-picture-for-the-pac-12/

This isn’t going to be a pretty story for the Pac-12, but if you’ve been paying attention you know that already.

Earlier this week, the great Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury-News reported that the Pac-12 will report $33 million in revenue per school later this year, which sounds great on paper until you realize it’s not 2012 anymore. Just last week the SEC announced it distributed $44.6 million per school over the 2018-19 fiscal year, a 33 percent gap that, according to Wilner, will accumulate into a $100 million difference over just a 5-year period.

The SEC’s revenue is set to skyrocket when ESPN/ABC takes over CBS’s football package, as each school is projected to earn a $17 million annual raise from its game-of-the-week television package alone.

The Pac-12 isn’t set to renegotiate its contracts with FOX and ESPN/ABC until 2024-25, a year after the SEC and Big Ten shake down the networks for all they’re worth.

In related news, UCLA athletics ran a $19 million deficit in fiscal year 2019 and needed a loan from the university. Cal has taken $110 million from the university’s general fund to support athletics over the past five years, and the Golden Bears recently accepted a $1.9 million guarantee to play at Notre Dame in 2022. Oregon State collected a $1.7 million guarantee for visiting Ohio State in 2018.

Flip the perspective to the other end of the spectrum and the picture becomes even more bleak.

As SB Nation pointed out, Georgia produced more blue-chip 2020 recruits than California. Not more blue-chip recruits when adjusted for population — more blue-chip recruits, period.

Yeah 6 of the top 8 are SEC and the other 2 (Clemson - Ohio State) are consistently in the playoffs.....some say recruiting is overrated

thats because the SEC receives the most revenue (by far) and in turn they can pay top dollar to their coaches and recruits

Clemson - With a total of nine assistants at or above the half-million dollar mark
in annual salary, Clemson will have the highest paid coaching staff in college foot-
ball entering 2020. Dabo will earn a cool $8.25 million salary this season with a
bump to $8.5 million in 2021. His salary increases each year topping off at $10
million in 2027.

*Twenty-three programs will have a new head coach this season and some others
are hanging on with little success the last two or three seasons. Natives are getting
restless with Chip Kelly (UCLA), Will Muschamp (SC), Dana Holgorsen (UH), Kevin
Sumlin (AZ), Derek Mason (VU) and might as well through in Tom Herman (TX).

*Did you know? Willie Taggart went 9-12 his first 21 games with Florida State and
was given $18 million to go away. Scott Frost went 8-13 his first 21 games at Nebraska
and was given a contract extension....soon to be regretted.

*Kudos to Geoff Collins (Georgia Tech) for one heck of a recruiting class (26th). Might
take another year, but I believe Collins will have Tech as a player in the ACC. Also, hats
off to Neal Brown (West Virginia) for filling some key holes for the mountain boys. Both
coaches got some rock solid talent that will help their programs sooner than later.

Florida - The Gators rarely play non-conference road games outside of its
home state, but that scheduling philosophy has changed under athletic
director Scott Stricklin. Florida announced Friday that they will play a home-
and-home series with Cal. The two teams square off in Gainesville on Sept.
19, 2026 and in Berkley on Sept. 4, 2027. It's the latest scheduling announce-
ment for a Florida program that has shifted its philosophy to become a more
national brand. The Gators have future home-and-home series set up with
Utah, Arizona State, Texas and Colorado. Florida also has the annual in-state
home-and-home series with Florida State and an in-state home-and-home series
with Miami on the books.

2020 Schedule

Eastern Washington.....Kentucky.....South Alabama....@Tennessee.....South Carolina
…..LSU.....@Ole Miss.....vs Georgia.....@Vanderbilt.....Missouri.....New Mexico State
…..Florida State

Auburn - Running back JaTarvious Whitlow who has led the Tigers in rushing the past two
seasons has entered the transfer portal. Not sure why, but the kid rushed for 1,550 yards
and 16 touchdowns during 2018 and 2019. Got to wonder if new offensive coordinator's
philosophy has anything to do with the transfer. Can't remember his name but the new
OC was Arkansas' head coach last year.

South Carolina - Will Muschamp's son Jackson, a quarterback, won't be playing for his dad.
He instead will be a preferred walk-on at Georgia, his fathers alma mater. Muschamp had
originally signed with Colorado State. I've always thought it best for the son of a head coach
to play somewhere else. Avoids a lot of potential problems......

Jackson Muschamp will most certainly playing for his dad....after pops gets fired in November and ends up on Kirby Smart's staff at UGA next year.

Muschamp really needs to win this season...and he and Kirby are best friends....so you might be right. Tough schedule
and injuries hurt South Carolina last year....no excuses this season.

Alabama - Tide assistant Karl Scott was named the top SEC recruiter by 247Sports. Scott
played a role in landing ten different recruits for the Tide. He did especially well in Texas
and the Birmingham, Alabama area. Along with being named the SEC's top recruiter, he
was selected the No. 3 overall recruiter in the nation.

Michigan State - The coaching search seems to be on stall right now. With Luke
Fickell, Pat Narduzzi, Matt Cambell, Mel Tucker and Robert Saleh now out of the
picture...some new names are being thrown around like Cal's Justin Wilcox, Ky's
Mark Stoops, C. Michigan's Jim McElwain and former Arkansas and Wisconsin
coach Bret Bielema who is actively seeking the job. Blowing off Luke Finkell was
not a good move in my opinion. Could be a Chinese fire drill before this search
is over.

2004 LSU they were together.. along with Jimbo and Derek Dooley.

Will and Kirby played safety at Georgia (Will a senior, Kirby a freshman) and became good friends. Both
coached together at Valdosta State (Will DC recommended Kirby) and later at LSU where Will was the DC
and recommended Kirby to Saban. Both share (co-own) a beach house in Florida. They have been close
friends for many years and continue to be so...………………...

They didn't blow off Fickell. Flew their private jet to Cinci, met with Luke and wife, Fickell's said "Not Interested" before any talks of $$$. Fickell blew them off as has the others. Already looking like the fire drill. MSU in a very bad light right now. If I was in charge would be waiting and going with interim coach. Very bad time to assemble a new staff.
They were trying like hell to get a coach before the board of trustee's meet end of this week. Now that it isn't going to happen maybe they will slow down. The trustee's must approve the coaching hire so now looks like an "emergency" trustee meeting when a coach is found.
MSU really hitting bottom, not many good recruits or players at this time. It will take awhile for Sparty to be relevant again.

Early September Games of Interest (at least to me)

Oklahoma @ Army, Sept. 26
How often do you see a top FBS team like the Sooners go on the road to play a
service academy? Most schools avoid Army and its triple-option offense at all costs.
But Oklahoma is making the risky trip to West Point early in the season with a young,
inexperienced quarterback.

Florida State @ Boise State, Sept. 19
Going on the road to the blue turf of Boise State, where the Broncos are primed for a
big season, will be a tough task for a team looking to regain respectability under a
new coaching staff. The Noles have their hands full!

North Dakota State @ Oregon, Sept. 5
With stud quarterback Justin Herbert off to the NFL, who will the Ducks turn to under
center? Coach Mario Cristobal has a lot of questions to answer, and not much time to
do it. North Dakota State is no ordinary cupcake FCS season-opening opponent. The
Bison are a powerhouse, having won three consecutive FCS national championships and
riding a 37 game winning streak.

Do you know of any sites that have these lines yet for these games?

Am i crazy thinking for that Boise should be a 7-10 pt favorite over Florida State?

Mel Tucker changes his mind and is headed to East Lansing. Seems MSU has doubled his salary.

Terrible hire - this has 2-10 all over it for years to some

Maybe and then maybe not. Tucker is a really good defensive coach, he's proven himself as an elite
recruiter and he has significant NFL and college level championship experience (GA, AL). I can't blame
him for taking the job when his salary will jump from $2.4 million to $5.2 million and a doubling of
his assistant coaches salary pool and substantial increases to the strength/conditioning program. He's
walking into a lot of problems at Michigan State and how he handles those issues will go a long way
toward any success he might have.

In six years, Tucker's salary has risen 940 percent.

2015 $500,000
2016 $850,000
2017 $900,000
2018 $1,500,000
2019 $2,400,000
2020 $5,200,000

I wouldn't call it terrible, average maybe. If Tucker gets the right assistants and recruits well he should be ok. Good pedigree, lacks HC experience.

On another note there is a lot of grumbling on how MSU backed up the Brinks Truck and poached Tucker. PAC-12 doesn't have the funds to retain top coaches it seems and some are wondering if they should be included in the Power 5 anymore. Ouch!

Colorado - The school has contacted Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator and former
Buffs star running back Eric Bienemy about their head coaching job. Bienemy is reported
to be very interested in the Colorado opportunity. In the mean time, Darrin Chiaverini has
been named interim head coach.

Michigan State - Nick Saban worked as an outside advisor on Michigan State's hunt for Mel
Tucker, according to the Detroit News. Saban had two stints with the Spartans, from 1983-87
as defensive coordinator and 1995-99 as head coach. He was a strong endorser of Tucker who
worked for him at Michigan State, LSU and Alabama. Good to have an endorsement from Nick!!

*Tucker's salary will be more than one million more than the basketball coach who has been
with the school 25 years and won 623 games. Ouch!
