Should this be hard to believe?

I deposited by credit card and sent them the ID/copies/etc that they asked for. I wagered on the Yankees to win the series and, as soon as they took a 2-1 series lead, I got a memo from Carib saying they needed the last 4 digits of my Social Security number. Are you kidding me? When I told them 'no way', they said OK. A day later, I got another memo from them demanding the 4 digits of the Social Security number.

I called in to ask why the change of heart, and they explained they 'changed their policies' and that I would have to give the 4 digits if I ever wanted to cash out. By the way, they said, THEY ALREADY DUG UP MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER SOMEHOW and just wanted me confirm it. WTF?

I was not happy and said I'd like to cancel my pending wagers and work through some mediator to do a cashout. The series futures price had gone to about -200 by then, as the series was tied at 2-2, so I would be cancelling the wagers at the same price I got them at. This seemed fair enough to me and also to Carib supervisor Judith, so she said (on a recorded phone call) 'OK, I'll cancel your wagers'.

Well I logged on earlier today and found out that the wagers were still pending and the 'Board of Supervisors is considering your request'. I called to find out why they didn't honor the agreement I made with them on Thursday to cancel the wagers, and they said they were still considering the request.

Well surprise, surprise - once the Yankees lost, they made their decision and graded my wagers as losers.

Can anyone help out with these people?

How exactly would Carib benefit from knowing the last 4 digits of your SS number ?

The subject line in this thread suggests that somehow thet are "stealing" from you ?

I don't get it. You made a bet in good faith on the Skankies and they lost.

Suck it up and move on.

my 4 digits are often the only verification info I need to call my bank and get personal details on my account, and I wouldn't want some 3rd world sportsbook doing that

anyway, there are 2 totally separate issues - 1) holding my money hostage, 2) stealing it

you are correct that having my 4 digits is totally unrelated to 'prolonging' their decision to cancel my bets

nonetheless, both are F'ed up

if you're going to demand my SS digits, tell me that before I make a deposit so I can decide not to make that deposit in the first place

if you're going to agree to cancel my wagers, don't 'reconsider' up until the time you can see if you would win or lose

is that too much to ask?

If Carib agrees to mediation and doesn't "lose" the tape, I agree 100%

Believe me, I'm the LAST person in this forum to stick up for 3rd World Leech Sportsbooks. Something just doesn't sound right. I've got a few bucks at Carib and the customer service people have always been courteous, friendly and ( for a sportsbook anyway ) professional.

Good luck with your dispute. I'd like to hear the other side of the story on this one.

May I ask a couple of "stupid" questions?

Are you from the US and able to use Credit cards at Carib?
(I was not able)
Also--I never had them ask me for a social security number? (4 digits or any other part). Is that a new policy?

yes it's a 'new' policy, but I'm sure it's only applied selectively

fkm, Welcome to The RX. Always nice to see new posters. I read your post and should know a cs person cannot cancel wagers after 4 games are played. Why are you complaining AFTER you lost. Maybe you should of said something a few days ago when Carib did not cancel your wager.

hmmm, then why did Carib send me a memo after 3 games were played, saying that I had to send in my ID/CC copies by nighttime or they would cancel my wagers?

even aside from that, why 'should I know' something contrary to what the Carib supervisor herself is telling me? am I supposed to deal with sportsbooks not by what they tell me, but by what I 'should know'?

if I won the bet and they then cancelled it, could I have gone to them and said I want to reinstate my bet because they 'should know' that you can't cancel a bet after several games have been played? you think they'd have gone for that?

Can NO one on this site get the benefit of the doubt? Must you ALL come down hard on this guy who, on the basis of his side of the story alone, seems to have been genuinely shafted?

My gawd people, come off your sanctimonious high horses. Try to consider the fact that maybe, MAYBE, quasi-legal sportsbooks aren't always operated by saints, and it is conceivable that a company that lives on the grey side of the law, and operates a business that thrives on the frailty of human emotions and emptying of their bank accounts might CHEAT from time to time.

Jeez. Cut this poor guy some slack!
