6 straight loses...........free falling! Talk on sports radio here is divided, some say the Phils have nothing to play for (I have a few comments on that) and others say they can turn on the switch and will with the last series against the Braves to roll into the playoffs. Here is my thoughts on this team not playing hard because they have clinched, they have, no had, 3 pitchers a month ago that could have made a strong running at the Cy Young award (Hamels, Halladay and Lee) these 3 guys have been playing their asses off to try and win. In fact it took Halladay to pitch a 1-0 complete game shutout to win the NL East pennant 2-3 weeks ago. Why as a team would you coast when your pitcher is not? Next everything else in sports is based on stats, BA, RBI's, number of hits, number of errors, etc....why as a player would you let your numbers drop for an entire 5 weeks? This just doesn't make sense to me and so I don't buy the cruise control theory that the team is not motivated.
I don't have the resources to find out how many games the Phils have won this season by 1 run but there is a bunch! I also don't know where the Phils stand in what I think is the power rating (hitting and runs scored I assume) but I bet it would be in the lower half of the league.
There is still time for this team to turn it around but not much, I don't know if a team can actually turn on a "switch" and start hitting but if there is I be pretty pissed off if I was a pitcher busting my ass trying to win!
Your thoughts guys.....................
