Im not getting into a pissing contest with you, Im just saying the tech exists out there and if you think it cant be used you are being naive.

And the released docs reference Samsung specifically, just because the model of Panasonic you happen to have and the settings you have it set to dont fall under this hack doesnt mean anything.

There is no Skeleton Key when it comes to hacks. Its all about finding weaknesses. Hell, if it has internet connection it can be breached. Cars, TV, phones, shit I just read about being able to hack a smart fridge and washing machine. Dont know why but my point is no tech is truly safe. And you are correct 99.9% of the populous has no reason to be concerned about their TV being hacked, it just makes for a juicy story.

That's pretty much all I was trying to say... :)

(BTW, I write security software for a living, so I'm aware of what can and cannot be done... )

If you're looking at buying a new TV in 2017, you're likely to get hit with a barrage of buzzwords: 4K, OLED, QLED, HDR... it's enough to make your head spin. All you're looking for is a good TV, at a great price, and you don't want to waste money on things you don't need. Totally reasonable.
When you're checking out the TVs though, don't make the mistake of thinking "I don't need a High Dynamic Range (HDR) TV." Even if you haven't the foggiest idea what that means, and have no intention of watching HDR content, buying an HDR TV is the right move. Here's why.

if you don't need the internal tuner for OTA signals then vizio is best for budget 50-55". you can get the 1080p version for $400-450. looks great and you can hard-line connect internet with built-in apps for amazon, netflix, pandora, etc.

also has wireless of course

if you get your HD locals via OTA then Vizio is not an option

i have the 4k and watched Gleason on Amazon in UHD last night. phenomenal picture and clarity

I haven't followed it too closely, what content is now available in 4K?

All Netflix and amazon prime original programming is in 4K .
Youtube also has a lot of 4K.

And DIRECTV also has some 4K.

Watched some of the masters in 4K a few weeks ago.

I have all my devices that stream 4K hardwired .

The picture is definitely better hardwired on 4K vs wifi

I saw the answers above and they are pretty accurate. The cable companies dont have much. I spoke with a buddy of mine high up in Comcast IT and he said they plan on rolling out a bunch of 4k content but are waiting on net neutrality decisions to be settled. 4k sucks up A LOT of bandwidth. Golf is always the first to roll out new tech. (HD, 3D, Color, etc) They have broadcast in 4k already so it cant be too far off.
