Give Kimbo, Rico Rodriguez or Antonio Silva next...and it will no contest.

Probably the worst ground game between 2 fighters I have ever seen.

An 'ok' jui-jitz guy will dominate Kevin Ferguson...but Elite will try to keep this media train rolling and give him another scrub.

I love MMA, the Pride events from 2005-2006 were AMAZING and the UFC is still putting on good shows 1/2 the time... BUT these heavyweights are absolute jokes.

This whole Kimbo thing (as we see with this thread) can be a great thing, as it brings even more people to the sport...but it has its drawbacks as people will formulate opinions on MMA based on 'Kimbo'...its so wrong to do.

Don't be media whores, people...its a great sport...Kimbo is not a 'real' mma fighter...yet.

This fight was a joke... Thompson is remembered as a recipiant of some of the best knockouts in Pride history. Both he and Kimbo were gassing after the first round... Any top ten heavyweight would destroy Kimbo... Gonzaga, Cro Cop, Tim Sylvia, Frank Mir, etc...

Absolute joke of a fight. Joke of an organization I'd say.

Not a joke of an organization in the slightest - they just had Shamrock vs. Cung Le - they've had some other good fights - Baroni/Shamrock - but I would imagine we see Kimbo v. Butterbean real soon - of course Kimbo is just a C level boxer trying his best in MMA - that's why Ortiz said he'd kick his ass - but I think Kimbo needs to quit talking shit to Chuck

Yeah, Seymour...

Elite isn't joke....fighters wise...they have a gigantic investment in Kimbo thats all.

Their HW division is pretty decent as well. As a fan, I am rooting for a Rodriguez fight next but highly doubt we'll see it.

The Shamrock v. Lee fight was amazing last month. As were the other fights tonight.

Not a 'real' mma fighter?? Real mma fighters have a ground game and Kimbo proved that tonight. He made some nice escapes and reversals on the ground against a bigger and more experienced fighter. The hype is legit until he gets his ass knocked out which dosen't appear to be anytime soon.

He proved that tonight?

He had a semi-ground game tonight because Thompson has a below avg ground game. And in the world of MMA he is legendary for a very weak chin & a brawler like Kimbo should've knocked out instead of gasping for air while laying on the mat.

It worked...he got the win. Congrats to him.

Drink the kool-aid all you want. I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm sure you won't be alone.

But when he progresses to 'ok' MMA fighters, I'm sure they will look at this fight & be licking their chops.

Like I said, I expect him to have a couple more wins. Elite has way too much invested in this for him to fight legitimate contenders.

Similar situation, I came away a lot more impressed w/ a Brock Lesnar loss then this Kimbo win. Diff. is UFC doesn't have to worry about an investment fighter like Brock...and can give him a legitimate opponent.

Struggling with James Thompson does not make the hype legit. Oh brother.

Last time I give Mixed martial arts any attention.

Bill,

Don't give up on MMA. This was a shit card with 4th rate fighters, other than the chicks. Scott Smith got his ass handed to him all but one of his UFC fights. Lawler lost 3 of his last 4 with UFC. Baroni is shit, just crap all night. This was like watching a D3 women's hoop game and saying you don't like basketball.

In fact, there is another fight card tomorrow night (Sunday) on Versus. Urijah Faber/Jens Pulver fight for the featherweight title. Should be a damn good fight (take Faber). You will see real MMA fighters with well rounded games and skills. Don't judge MMA on this.

Agreed ^^^

This was one of the worst MMA showcases for the sports first time on network prime time.

Kimbo would get killed against a skilled heavy weight. XC is trying to build him up like a boxer, have him fight tomato cans and look dominant. He couldn't even do that...While MMA is ready for primetime kimbo is not the guy to sell it an uneducated public.

I said it before the fight began. The guy is not a good representative of MMA. He is a mediocre fighter in mediocre condition that will get knocked out but a legitimate Heavyweight.

Everyone gets a huge woody over some guy they see on the internet beat a few bar thugs in some back alley but UFC fighters are on the next level and this guy hasn't even enterted the elevator yet.
