I had been thinking about doing the one with lemon water and Cayenne Peper, I beleive it is like 14 days, Ive read some stuff about it and it seems crazy.

Ive also seen in some health stores they have some that you can purchase.

I know multiple people who swear by this..best of luck

my mom did the master cleanse about 5 years ago and wanted my dad to do it with her. of course he said "hell no" so i was roped into it. did it for 17 days. the drink itself isn't bad at all. like a spicy gatorade. the problem was i lost too much weight in the first week. i was only 170 to begin with and dropped 11 pounds. my suits were falling off me. began to put in 3.5x the amount of syrup for the remaining 10 days to boost my calories and weight loss stopped. my mom lost like 15 lbs over 17 days. of course i went out and got a huge steak dinner at mortons when it was over and killed my toilet for a few days. like it was said before, you need to eat light when coming off it.

i'd do it again just to see if i had the discipline to pass up meals. it was tough to be sitting their with a jug of the mix while friends were chowing down right in front of me. even harder when i quit weed the whole time to avoid the munchies.

Did you shit your pants while jogging and had to use a mexican's garden hose to wipe it off?

Master cleanse is not about losing weight. As someone said in this thread already, it really gives your body a break from processing food. Lots of animals in the wild fast to get over sickness. Letting your body devote energy to something other than breaking down PB&j's and chips and dip is always a good thing.

My wife was/is not over weight.

I would suggest reading a copy of The Master Cleanse by Stanely Burroughs. It is about what goes into the juice and how your body gets everything that it needs to function. It states in the book that you must do it for at least 10 days. You can be the judge on if you want to do it for longer. If I'm not mistaken, the book suggests that you go veg/vegan after the cleanse. Clearly this is not an option that I would intertain.

Good luck with it if you decide to do it.

Give up the dream. This is SOOOOOOO untrue. I can't believe there are actually people that agree with you.

http://www.answers.com/topic/fasting

"Used for thousands of years, fasting is one of the oldest therapies in medicine. Many of the great doctors of ancient times and many of the oldest healing systems have recommended it as an integral method of healing and prevention. Hippocrates, the father of Western medicine, believed fasting enabled the body to heal itself.

Paracelsus, another great healer in the Western tradition, wrote 500 years ago that "fasting is the greatest remedy, the physician within." Ayurvedic medicine, the world's oldest healing system, has long advocated fasting as a major treatment.

Fasting has also been used in nearly every religion in the world, including Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, and Islam. Many of history's great spiritual leaders fasted for mental and spiritual clarity, including Jesus, Buddha, and Mohammed. In one of the famous political acts of the last century, the Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi fasted for 21 days to promote peace.

Fasting has been used in Europe as a medical treatment for years. Many spas and treatment centers, particularly those in Germany, Sweden, and Russia, use medically supervised fasting. Fasting has gained popularity in American alternative medicine over the past several decades, and many doctors feel it is beneficial. Fasting is a central therapy in detoxification, a healing method founded on the principle that the build up of toxic substances in the body is responsible for many illnesses and conditions.

The principle of fasting is simple. When the intake of food is temporarily stopped, many systems of the body are given a break from the hard work of digestion. The extra energy gives the body the chance to heal and restore itself, and burning stored calories gets rid of toxic substances stored in the body.

The digestive tract is the part of the body most exposed to environmental threats, including bacteria, viruses, parasites, and toxins. It requires the most immune system support. When food is broken down in the intestines, it travels through the blood to the liver, the largest organ of the body's natural detoxification system. The liver breaks down and removes the toxic by-products produced by digestion, including natural ones and the chemicals now present in the food supply. During fasting, the liver and immune system are essentially freed to detoxify and heal other parts of the body.

Many healers claim that fasting is a particularly useful therapy for Americans and for the modern lifestyle, subjected to heavy diets, overeating, and constant exposure to food additives and chemicals. Some alternative practitioners have gone so far as to estimate that the average American is carrying 5-10 pounds of toxic substances in their bodies, for which fasting is the quickest and most effective means of removal.

http://www.answers.com/topic/fasting-purpose

Fasting can be used for nearly every chronic condition, including allergies, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, depression, diabetes, headaches, heart disease, high cholesterol, low blood sugar, digestive disorders, mental illness, and obesity. Fasting is an effective and safe weight loss method. It is frequently prescribed as a detoxification treatment for those with conditions that may be influenced by environmental factors, such as cancer and multiple chemical sensitivity. Fasting has been used successfully to help treat people who have been exposed to high levels of toxic materials due to accident or occupation. Fasting is thought to be beneficial as a preventative measure to increase overall health, vitality, and resistance to disease. Fasting is also used as a method of mental and spiritual rejuvenation.

Do a search and you'll find just as many articles saying how unhealthy it is. In the end, it doesnt take a genius to determine which source to believe. Master Cleanse is a master scam. Get off your ass, walk a little bit, eat less, and improve your health one step at a time. Want impressive results? Put in impressive work.

Actually the link i posted had numerous articles with varying viewpoints on fasting.

To just make the blanket statement that fasting is unhealthy is ridiculous. Try
eating when you are sick to your stomach or have a 2 week long flu and you
may cause yourself serious damage.

i'm convinced... not eating for 40 days....

As most of us are as addicted to stuffing our faces as an addict is to crack,
fasting even 2 days would be nearly impossible.

Suffice to say that anyone who knows anything about the subject would tell you
not to try for 40 days on the very first fast in your lifetime.
