Lenny Del Genio's 15* Getaway Day Game of the Week (12-5 since Aug 6!)
Play on the Mariners at 4:35 ET. The Angels have taken the first two games of this three-game set, opening a four-game lead in the West and have now won 10 of the 14 meetings this year. Lackey shut Seattle out Monday night and then last night, after the Mariners got five runs off of Santana in the first (Santana recorded just ONE out!), the Angels came back to win, 10-6. Do the Mariners have anything left this afternoon? Why not? The Angels are still just 34-34 on the road and Seattle remains one of MLB's best home teams (41-26). As for the starting pitchers today, the edge goes to Seattle. Jered Weaver has not been performed up to his rookie year standards (11-2, 2.56 ERA) for the Angels, going 9-6 with a 3.96 ERA. His road ERA (4.48) is a full run higher than his home ERA (3.48) and in two starts this year versus Seattle, he's been hit hard. The second-year pitcher has allowed 21 hits and 11 ERs in just 10 2-3 innings, for a 9.28 ERA. Meanwhile, Seattle will send its ace, Felix Hernandez. The Mariners are 8-2 in his last 10 starts and are 10-3 in his 13 home starts in '07. Seattle avoids the home sweep here and is my 15* Getaway Day Game of the Week.
Good luck, Lenny
Scott Spreitzer's MLB Afternoon Absolute Blowout! *102-64, 61%!
My Afternoon release is a play on the Blue Jays with Halladay over the A's and Dinardo. Roy Halladay hasn't always dominated the A's in his career, but this is the weakest situation he has probably ever seen them in. Oakland averages just 3.3 RPG in home day games against righties. And, Halladay has been outstanding under the sun. In six day starts this season, the righthander owns a 2.38 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and .208 BAA. Meanwhile, the Jays are smacking lefties in road day games for over 8 RPG! Look for Toronto to get the job done behind a strong effort from Halladay. The Jays are my Afternoon Beatdown. Thanks! GL! Scott.
Scott Spreitzer's MLB Getaway Day Game of the Week! (Swept Last Night!)
My Getaway Day Game of the Week is a play on the Mariners. Seattle is looking to snap their skid and they have the matchup needed to do so. The Mariners are a healthy 10-5 and average over 5 RPG in home day tilts against righthanders. Today, they'll take on Jered Weaver, a righty that's been seriously bounced around in his last two road starts, including a whipping at the hands of Seattle at Safeco. Weaver is not as dominant as he was last season. Teams have gotten their looks at him, and after seeing him twice in person this summer, I've noticed his time between pitches has grown way too long. The righty is allowing a .292 BAA away from home and in three career starts at Safeco, he's allowed 12 earned runs and 30 base runners in just 17 2/3 IP! That's an incredibly weak 6.11 ERA & 1.70 WHIP to go along with a .329 BAA! Felix Hernandez counters. The Ms are 16-7 in his 23 outings, including six straight wins. The righty owns a 3.60 ERA during the run along with a 1.20 WHIP. The Angels are scoring an average of just 3.5 RPG in road day games against righties. I don't expect that to be nearly enough on Wednesday. The Mariners are my Getaway Day GOW. Thanks! GL! Scott.
