I just think he transformed on screen and you actually forgot he was Bale during his performance.
I loved Bale's performance myself. I'm just trying to figure what I think the academy would do. I think there will be two or three surprises tonight. And I think the categories we could see them in is supporting actor, supporting or lead actress and possibly best picture.
I've seen both The King's Speech and Social Network. And King's Speech is the kind of movie the Academy has loved in the past. And it has by far the best acting of any of the movies. But The Social Network is a stone cold TCM classic that will hold up well over time. I liked both movies quite a bit. But you have to look at how the academy votes. Remember, this is partly the same group of stuff shirts that voted Ordinary People best picture over Raging Bull, and Forest Gump over Pulp Fiction.

Saw Winter's Bone last night. One hell of a move imo. Really wish it had a shot at winning best pic.

I don't know about you guys, but I think The King's Speech is Oscar Bait to it's core. And will win a fair share of awards tonight. Here's a few bets that I put down:

Tom Hooper (+115) to win Best Director for King's Speech. Hooper won the Directors Guild Award for best Director. And only 6 times in history has the winner of the DGA not gone on to also win the Oscar. So I like his chances and these odds.

Geoffrey Rush (+115) to win best supporting actor for King's Speech. I thought Rush was every bit as good as Bale. But I like my odds much more with Rush.

Helen Bonham Carter (+500) for best supporting actress for The King's Speech. This is a longshot at best. But something tells me that Bonham isn't far behind Leo or Steinfield. And those two could knock off each other in splitting the votes and Bonham coming in to steal it. Don't laugh. It's happened many times before. If Carter doesn't win it, I'm hoping for Steinfield for True Grit. She impressed me more than anybody else this year. But she has yet to win an award of any kind. Which isn't a good sign when it comes to the Oscars.

Biutiful (-175) for Best Foreign Film. There's only a couple of movies in this category that the public is even familiar with. With Biutiful being one of them. In the past, whenever one of these foreign movies have had an actor nominated for a Best Actor award like Bardem, in the great majority of the cases those movies have gone on to win the best foreign film award.

Waste Land (+660) for Best Documentary Film. I really liked Exit Through The Gift Shop for it's entertainment value. And I liked Inside Job and how the makers of that film made those Wall Street insiders squirm with their unexpected hardball questions. But Waste Land is a movie about a subject that most people including me, didn't even know existed. Which could impress some of these Academy voters who have seen everything when it comes to movies. I was pretty impressed with all of the films in the documentary category this year. But I like my odds with this gem.

Will King's Speech win 5 oscars or more?...Yes (-175)
