one thing i will say though is the more i see poly it seems like the longer the distances the more hopeless the speed becomes and the more closer friendly the races become

like overall for this meet....the further the distances got the more closer friendly the races played on poly.....speed was fine on sprints...

anyway its just a totally new game with this plastic....me and others like steak despise it greatly

but at the same time...zanyetta would be one hell of a horse on dirt too...probably up there with the best ever too......but "legend' and "best mare ever" nah.....with that style no way you can go undefeated for your career on dirt.....as if you are hit with a slow pace...you just have no hope of closing ground....cause high class horses with high cruising speeds that are on or a soft pace can come home in 23 and change on dirt....they can't on poly

just playing to a totally different type of animal between the two surfaces

some will say its good for the breed honestly and i can see that in some respects

as alot of these horses are bred to be cripples...that are freaks of nature with the speed they got that should never be running as fast and as far as they are......

poly will breed more to stamina and soundness and not to speed

like colonel john who i liked there got the same exact trip the 7 in the juvy and the 2 in the mile did

except this time the rail stalker couldn't kick on at the 1/8th pole the longer the distance got....

and the closers in zanyetta and gio ponti were the ones took the top two spots....5 in 3rd came from 7th....who i figured would run a good race too....was a further back early....

honestly surprised summer bird ran as well as he did to get 4th...figured he'd do worse and be up the track like curlin....that dirt style just can't get it done on poly.....

outside stalkin' speed was the death position on that track the last few days

all those types finished up the track...einstein (no clue why jock woud take him up on the pace wide)....RIP was up the track....

rail was definitely biased....and that was key to zanyetta winnin' IMO...smith did a good job keepin' her on the rail as long as he could

you would think MTB coulda done something there LOL...but that horse is gone the magic wore out...being trained by a crap trainer finally caught up to him........he was the only closer in the back with all the outside speed that stopped badly....MTB derby will likely go down as the biggest derby longshot in my mind probably till i fall in my grave...i wouldn't have touched that horse at 150-1 in the derby....maybe his trainer found him a bit of that undectable cobra venom goin around backside amongst the juicer trainers before the derby LOL....granted he did run a good preakness but after that he was done for....

Los Al was the place for my first date with my ex-wife back in 1978...we sat in the clubhouse and had dinner...years later she said she couldn't believe that I took her there for a first date...and as a gambler I said what did you want me to do, go to dinner and a movie? Marriage lasted 5 years....
