Sorry ,I didnt read through the thread before I answered. There are people in my life who I love that I would give my life for in an instant.A complete stranger,I am not sure but probably doubtful for me too,it would take a special situation for sure.I most likely would do it for a random child in an instant too though.

Have done so many times, tho still alive ;

Cum on, what is life, a fleeting few years/moments and then you go to eternity.
Why cling to it so dearly. It's not like it's hundreds, thousands or millions of years.

We are all basicly dead already. Get over it! Geezus.

Yeah, I might for the right person.....give me a verifiable story, I might !

I've lived long enough already....been alive for as long as I can remember, don't have a happy life, haven't been happy since about 1995. I don't care if I die !

You don't care becuz your wife sucks! Divorce/leave her & go to Thailand/heaven now!

yeah i would... i find most of my happiness doing for others now n days! i suffer from severe anxiety! haven't been able to do normal shit since august 13 2001! so if i knew for fact i would make a difference then yeah sign me up!

so why not give my life to a person who could enjoy it better! but if i had a wife or kids i would grind it out as long as possible and only give my life for one of them!

Unfortunately for strangers I always assume the worst over the best...so I'd find more reasons, and quicker, not to do it. IE: what if he beats his wife and kids? Do I really want to give my good for life for THAT?

Also, if I knew there was a Heaven, I'd do it. Eternal bliss. Yes please.

But I don't believe there is one...at least not after my 23 years of life, so I'm more inclined to stay on this Earth.

I think I would do it for a little kid, say if a car was speeding and I had to jump in front of it to push the kid away from an otherwise certain hit from the car. That little kid deserves to live a longer life than me at that point.

Other than that I don't believe I would unless I got married and had kids.

[Maximus looks at images of his wife and son]
Juba: Can they hear you?
Maximus: Who?
Juba: Your family. In the afterlife.
Maximus: Oh yes.
Juba: What do you say to them?
Maximus: To my son - I tell him I will see him again soon. To keep his heels down while riding his horse. To my wife... that is not your business.

---------------------------

[to his dead friend]
Juba: I will see you again... but not yet... not yet...

--------------------------

Commodus: The general who became a slave. The slave who became a gladiator. The gladiator who defied an emperor. Striking story! But now, the people want to know how the story ends. Only a famous death will do. And what could be more glorious than to challenge the Emperor himself in the great arena?
Maximus: You would fight me?
Commodus: Why not? Do you think I am afraid?
Maximus: I think you've been afraid all your life.

------------------
Maximus: Ancestors, I ask you for your guidance. Blessed mother, come to me with the Gods' desire for my future. Blessed father, watch over my wife and son with a ready sword. Whisper to them that I live only to hold them again, for all else is dust and air. Ancestors, I honor you and will try to live with the dignity that you have taught me.

----------------

[last lines]
Juba: And now we are Free. I will see you again... but not yet... Not yet!

--------------

[His only line]
Tigris: We who are about to die, salute you!

-------------

Marcus Aurelius: You have proven your valor once again, Maximus. Let us hope for the last time.
Maximus: There is no one left to fight, sire.
Marcus Aurelius: There is always someone left to fight. How can I reward Rome's greatest general?
Maximus: Let me go home.
Marcus Aurelius: Ah, home.

--------------

Commodus: What am I going to do with you? You simply won't... die. Are we so different, you and I? You take life when you have to... as I do.
Maximus: I have only one more life to take. Then it is done.
Commodus: Then take it now.
[Maximus pauses, then turns around and walks away]
Commodus: They tell me your son...
[Maximus stops]
Commodus: ...squealed like a girl when they nailed him to the cross. And your wife... moaned like a whore when they ravaged her again and again... and again.
Maximus: The time for honoring yourself will soon be at an end.
[Bows head]
Maximus: Highness.

--------------------

Juba: It's somewhere out there. My country. My home. My wife is preparing food. My daughters carry water from the river. Will I ever see them again? I think not.
Maximus: Do you believe you'll see them again when you die?
Juba: I think so. But then, I will die soon. They will not die for many years. I'll have to wait.
Maximus: But you would … wait?
Juba: Of course.
Maximus: You see, my wife and my son are already waiting for me.
Juba: You'll meet them again. But not yet. Not yet.
[They shake hands]
Maximus: Not yet. … Not yet.

Random people no, barring exceptional circumstances (they're about to save the world type of stuff).

I can probably count on less than one hand the people I'd do it for.
