Attendance and viewership is down..

Is this the only thing that can save it?

save it from what

http://nationalpost.com/sports/foot...-goodell-working-on-5-year-contract-extension

The San Francisco 49ers, for instance? They were worth $699 million in 2005. Last year: $3 billion. And on you can go.Denver Broncos: $994 million in 2005, $2.4 billion last year.
Oakland Raiders: $676 million in 2005, $2.1 billion last year.
Even the Buffalo Bills have more than doubled in value in that time, from $708 million to $1.5 billion.

Goodell first and foremost turned revenue streams into raging rivers. In 2010 — a year in which the league raked in $8.5 billion — Goodell famously announced the goal of $25 billion in annual league revenues by 2027.
Those revenues topped $14 billion last season. Well on their way.
Goodell, then, not only has made his billionaire owners more billions, under his stewardship many owners themselves actually became billionaires

nfl revenues continue to grow annually
owners are making money regardless

There's more money in it for the NFL & more interest from fans if sports betting were legal.

Everybody knows it including the world's biggest hypocrites, the NFL themselves...

No it would not. It is funny that people think someone who make legal bets will watch more than people who make illegal bets.

But if Viewership continues to sink those BIG money TV contracts will not be there, and my guess is that's were much of there revenues come from
amazon paid 50 mil to stream 10 games of thursday night football (twitter paid 10 mil) and thursday night football has been fucking awful

tv networks and media companies are still raking in tons of advertising cash
i wouldn't be surprised if we saw a amazon/netflix/hulu bidding war for sunday or monday night football in the future

I really don't understand the narrative. All this news and stats of viewership down, yet every motherfucker you know talks about the game come Monday morning. Everyone going nuts in August because the season is around the corner. Fantasy football and Fan Duel is through the roof! My entire office staff (from all walks of life) belong to some form of Fantasy Football league.

Viewership being down is pure bullshit. There's your fakenews.

Agree Carolina. And even the "Average Ignorant Joe" has to understand that odds on the lottos are beyond impossible.

But guys just like anything else in life, some ppl have no self discipline.

Ppl do it with alcohol, with drugs, with eating, and many other things.

I've even heard of guys who have an addiction to strip clubs & blow every dime weekly instead of paying their bills.

It's not the hobby or recreation that's the problem.

The problem is the few people who have no control over themselves...

Watching guys cash their payroll checks at the casino is awkward.
