Why Would the Phoenix Suns Trade Amare for KG?

I can't believe you don't think this makes the Suns better immediately. KG can do everything Amare does, can pass better, and plays tons better D. I promise the Spurs and Mavs hate this trade if it happens.

You guys are acting like KG is Bill Russell. Yes, he is a better defender. Is it enough to make a huge impact, no I dont think so. Especially when the rest of the team plays very little defense.

If I had to choose one player for next season, yes I would pick KG. But I just think Amare has such great potential. Plus, he is still so young.

I hope the trade goes through for KG. He deserved to be on a championship contender.

garnett has averaged 20+ and 12+ for a DECADE now. he's endured playing with some absolute cancers (read: stephon marbury, ricky davis, et al.)

he is easily one of the best players of the post jordan era. i think people get too enamored with upside. sure stoudamire is athletic as hell. but garnett is a proven commodity and a legit superstar. there is no guarantee stoudamire ever reaches 70% of garnett's level.

Are you saying Amare is not a proven commodity and a legit superstar? :think2:

I know real basketball is not fantasy basketball.

But I am pretty sure Amare is a top 5 player when healthy and fantasy hoops is all stat based.

The guy does a lot of things. And is a lot younger.

yes, i am saying that stoudamire is not a superstar. to me, that term is tossed around way too loosely by media and fans. stoudamire is a very good basketball player. but he isn't in garnett's league yet. and there's a good chance he might never be. kg is a special, special player that he's been trying to play against a stacked deck for years.

What does this do to the Suns cap? KG makes 22 million while AS makes 13 million. I am confused on how this works out... What else do they have to give up?

Why,

(i) - KG is better and will be better for the next 2-3 years
(ii) - Amare plays no D
(iii) - Amare is a malcontent that can't get along with Marion
(iv) - KG's 10th highest RB/game is the same as Amare's highest
(v) - KG is pathologically competitive and would probably die for a championship
(vi) - KG has a MUCH more well rounded offensive and defensive game
(vii) - KG's 7th highest Blocks/game is the same as Amare's best
(viii) - the goal is to win a championship(s).
  1. How many times are you going to battle with the same team and going to come up short?
  2. for the next 2-4 years, do you really not thing KG instead of Amare makes this team better?
  3. Do any of you really think Amare is a better player than KG, right now?
(ix) - most importantly, the Suns window closes, with or without Amare/KG, when this man turns ?????????????????? There aren't many chances left for the Suns and they should do everything in their power to win and win asap. Marion is only 2 years younger than KG, their window is CLOSING and CLOSING FAST.

As a straight up swap, KG is a much better player than Amare. Not even close.

Probably true. And this would be great for the Suns over the next 3 years.

But it's like ODKU says, whats up with the salary difference?!

Phoe would throw in a contract(s) to make it work and sign some minimum salary guy to fill the roster spot.

as best I can tell from the ESPN Trade Machine, the trade would have to be

KG

for

Stoudamire, Kurt Thomas and Marcus Banks

or

Stoudamire, Kurt Thomas, Eric Piatkowski and James Jones

Those are the only possibilities without including one of Nash, Barbosa, Marion, Diaw, Bell

FH, I figured something was up as the salary difference was 10 million... I am wondering who else will be traded in the package....

...
On paper this is a great trade for the Suns as Nash is getting old and Marrion will leave after next year.

But it will all come down to system. Is KG better then AS in the Suns offense? Will the Suns have to change there style of play? I guess we will have to see...

It looks like the Suns are saying - how do we beat SA - currently, our center cannot guard SA's PF - thus, we have to start Kurt Thomas - but KG can't guard Duncan either - he's too skinny too - is he a better defender the Amare - yes - but Amare is 100x better offensively - there is no better pick and roll than Nash/Amare - nothing even comes close - Amare has years upon years left - KG has hours left - to top this off - the Suns got smoked by Dallas the year before so it's not like they just have to get better than SA - this is a good deal for KG and the Hawks.
