I hate to give you he said, she said story, but here it is.

A friend of mine is a sports reporter in Dallas. I am not sure how, but he knows the trainer with the Astros. He said Clemens has been using for a while. He wanted to run with the story, but the trainer said, it would be obvious he talked and his career would be over.

I generally don't give things like this much credit, but he is not a liar from all the years I have known him. Always has been a straight shooter.

Heard a story in a similar fashion about Biggio. Who woulda thunk it???

You never thought that him going...

4.6, 3.7, 3.5, 4.35 and 3.91 in his late thirties and then suddenly dropping into the twos again in his forties was alarming at all?

Hmmm... seems like you are giving him a pass as well... He suddenly got unbeatable when he reached like 42 years old

he dropped into the 2s again because he went to the national league and played for a team that also had a great bullpen that closed out games for him as long as he went 6 innings.

Exactly. NL is the real key here.

This is what I was wondering. People were acting like he was implicated and I was not sure. I do not think he was and I do not like him and have followed him his entire career. But of course would not be surprised at all. he is pitching this age because he is a great talent and work out freak. In Boston the young pitchers could not do his workouts (running hills)...he is a hard worker.

You sound like guys that used to defend Bonds with this work out aholic bs

I wouldn't doubt it but need to hear more than this. We may never know for sure. Thanks for the info!

lets see..............

when the yanks signed him and were under .500, it was a waste of money, he was washed up, and a 5 inning pitcher who showed up when he wanted.

but now...... he's 'unhittable' and on steriods.

make up your minds.

BTW- clemens and nolan ryan both pitched well into their 40's because of how they use their legs. they drive off their legs, minimizing the wear and tear on thier arms. clemens has never been sidelined with an arm injury.

No doubt in my mind that Clemens is juicing; the difference between him (and anybody else) and Bonds is that they're not after THE most hallowed record in baseball. If McGwire were approaching 755 he'd be getting the same treatment.

Did somebody really just compare the physical demands for Jerry Rice playing WR to Roger Clemens standing on a pile of dirt and pitching?

wtf?

Ok, in that case Richard Petty must have been roiding too.

I bet half of baseball is still doing something. That's why I can't consider these guys athletes. You just look at guys like David Wells who are an embarrassment to the game and you call that an athlete? If these guys were legit they would be in basketball or football.

Not sure we really know the effects of pitchers taking roids. The hitting part is much easier.

That's ridiculous. He was a dominant pitcher with Toronto and the Yankees long before he joined the Astros. Another thought, do you think that it's a coincidence that he started skipping the first half of seasons only AFTER they started testing? Again, not making accusations, just wondering....:icon_conf

What we do know is that it enables your body to recover much faster from injuries and to build and maintain muscle mass. So there's little doubt that steroid use would greatly benefit aging power pitchers such as Clemens.

I used to hoop with Roger Clemens and he has never done steroids.
