I would go with the best player in the draft and get a future QB in a future pick. They could also use Johnson as a bargaining chip.

Damn, ESPN now reporting that Raiders told Russell that they will draft him. But they were willing to trade the pick to the Browns but were asking too much.... so you never know.

Exactly. Steve Young agrees. He thinks Calvin Johnson #1 and Trent Edwards in 2nd rd. It seems like the only team that has Russell rated #1 are the Raiders. So if they don't draft him, he'll probably fall like Leinart.

ESPN has been told by Oakland sources Russell will be their pick so looks like Johnson goes 2

Yeah saw that. Still holding out hope because they were all set to trade the pick to Cleveland. But the announcement that they will pick Russell isn't going to help, since every other team wanted to trade up to select CJ.

Raiders coach is denying that they told Russell they would draft him... he says 20% chance that they trade this pick. And if it's true that they traded Moss then they may just draft CJ. Damn start the draft already!!!!!!!!!!!

I disagree with this. I am a big raider fan and watched all of their games last year except a couple that were blacked out and only in the first game of the year (SD) did an offense shut it down b/c they knew Oak couldn't score. Their defense was continuously put into horrible spots b/c of the offense and routinely held teams to 3 and FG attempt b/c of the offense. Their D actually is very good, frankly, one of the better in the league. They single handedly beat Pittsburgh (two defensive TDs and shut Pitts down). However, unless the offense can get a first down periodically, the same shit will happen again this year.

They never sold out of any of their home games. All their home games were blacked out.<!-- / message -->

I guess Al isn't as senile as I thought. I wanted this because I thought Jamarcus Russell would fall, but looks like it was Brady Quinn who took the Leinart drop. Gotta give Al props, he did the right thing.

[h=1]Detroit Lions’ Matthew Stafford Worthless Without Calvin Johnson[/h]October 6, 2013 9:51 pm EDT by Dom DeCarlo

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Did you ever have that friend in high school that got his heart broken by his girlfriend? If you did, then that friend probably laid in their bed like Robbie Hartin the Wedding Singer and listened to songs like “Don’t Know What You Got Till its Gone.” If you had a chance to see what Detroit LionsMatthew Stafford was going to do when he gets home after Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, it will more than likely be the same result.
If you were a Calvin Johnson or Matt Stafford owner in Fantasy Football this week, you know the feeling. Stafford’s Fantasy value depends greatly on Johnson. On Sunday, Stafford went 25-40 for 262 and one touchdown. These are not Stafford numbers, especially when Johnson is in the game. Usually, Stafford’s line is around 300 yards for multiple touchdowns.
Johnson missed Sunday’s game with a knee injury. He was questionable all week and then was suddenly was scratched on Sunday. Now, I think that Johnson will more than likely be back for the next game they play against the Cleveland Browns. If Johnson misses more than one week, Stafford owners better look for another option at quarterback.
Look, I’m not knocking Matt Stafford. He is a great gun-slinging quarterback. However, when your teams’ game plan focuses around one weapon like Detroit’s does around Johnson, then of course your value is going to fall.
For all of Stafford owners, I think you will be ok for next week. You all just need to keep an eye on Johnson’s health, because the value of Stafford revolves around it.
If you listen closely, tonight you will hear Matt Stafford and his owners singing “Calvin Johnson, I’m so lost without you!” “Johnson come back! You can blame it all on me and I just can’t live without you!”
