I am so immune to the gambling high by now.. I no longer get excited if I win.. because when i place a wager I fully expect that wager to win. and when I lose I'm in a pissed off mood..

this seems like torture..there are no highs anymore like when i first started.. only lows..

I'm not a professional that sets aside a huge bankroll and hopes to hit 57%. and earn whatever small percentage on my "investment"

but with that being said.. I've never been able to give it up.

common what your saying...either you keep playing more money to chase the high, and eventually lose...or you get smart and play for keeps and treat it like a business....there is no other way to stay in the game....it can`t be the high , because the low is way lower!

Well I'm in it to win money... what I was trying to say is I don't even get excited when I win a wager..because I fully expect to..

I'm at a point where I cant even watch a game (unless its my home team) unless I have money on it..

Mr. K....it's the gambling rush-and it quickly leads to lack of discipline.

Step back & take a breather

I expect to win every game. Hell, I expect to win every parlay. Doesn't always happen though.

I've felt this way for the last 2 years

and I've never had discipline..

and I've never had a losing year since I started in 98.. losing seasons..yes

people like me may be dumb (yes i have chased, and I always press after winning a bet)

but we are the TRUE Gamblers.

i agree with RPM taking a break brings the high back. but if your betting enough money that it makes you feel like shit if it loses, IMO your betting to much and need to back off before it gets you in trouble and you go broke

taking a week off would do wonders in this situation...reality can get lost in the big dollar figure we see in our account at times... I wish i had taken a month off last september would have saved me for sure...

Mr. K......time to raise the stakes my friend!

Just like the scientific study says gambling is related to taking cocaine........It's time for you to raise your bets in order to reach that high!.....

I dunno Journey, that's what that study claims. Says they studied the brain during gambling, and it releases the same types of chemicals and reacts almost identically the same as cocaine affects the brain......

I got like this once, towards the end of the 01-02 NBA season. The bizarre thing was, I was plus money, big time. I make no secret of the fact that I can't cap for shit and just focus on "capping the cappers" here, as I seem to do better at that. There was this one weekend, I posted about it at the time, where I went 9-0 on Saturday and 7-1 on Sunday playing NCAA and NBA hoops, all coat-tailed on Rx players. Actually, come to think of it that might have been my first post, because I lurked here for over a year before I even registered.

Anyway, things were going fabulous but once baseball started, I was trying to keep up with bases, college and pro hoops, hockey, soccer, all this stuff ... I had gotten obsessed with it really, and there was absolutely zero pleasure left. I cashed $13k out and took a while off, and then God bless them those wonderful Euro-Canadian weirdos who follow soccer made me a fortune on the World Cup.

Came around again in November of '02, so I just stopped playing until January. You ought to ease up on it, come around the forum once a day to see what stupid shit has been posted, say hi now and again, but enjoy your life away from the screen Kennedy. It's better anyway.

Mr K-

Raising the stakes may get the blood pumping, but there is another alternative:

Find another type of gambling.... cards, different sports, horses, dice, etc. Maybe playing a different game might be more interesting for you as you get highs from learning/improving.

Doubt you will ever quit feeling "pissed off" after a loss. McIrish is notorious for being a sore loser. I hate to lose and doubt it will ever quit. However I don't press or chase and risk the roll, just take loses hard. Always have going back to PeeWee Football and always will.

Better to strive for perfection and fall a little short than aim for mediocrity and not make it.

I was just thinking of starting a thread on the same topic. I know alot of people who gamble and several of them have a problem. These guys used to hit me up for picks all the time. I asked them a question "who could give up gambling the easiest." They all said it was me because by that time i was getting bored with it all.

Before the 2001 football season i just lost almost all desire to gamble. I won a nice chunk that football season but i only cherrypicked games. Last year it had gotten to the point where i didn't reasearch anything, i was throwing s*it against the wall and i lost quite a bit. When the Super Bowl was done, so was i. I still bet but the bets were few and far between. I went from a guy who could always turn a profit to a guy who couldn't pick winners. And really didn't have much desire to do the work necessary.

Then along came the BHB reverse capping. I just entered the contest for the hell of it. I did a small amount of reasearch the first day and went 5-0. Suddenly my competitive juices were flowing again. The next day i started to bet a full card and have been kicking ass since. I don't know if it was the time off or just a new thrill by entering that contest but it worked. I have spent more time reasearching games in two weeks then i did in two years.

You never know when you will lose that desire or get it back. But one thing is for sure. Once you have it, there is no way of getting rid of it.
