Pelicans now have 5 former Duke players on their roster and their GM Trajan Langdon.

Is this like when Steve Spurrier went to the NFL and said " just give me Danny Wuerfuel, you can have everybody else" Haha

Chances are KD will NOT be 100% for 20/21. So he sits out year one and is only 70 to 80% himself year 2

That's a huge leap of faith. The organization still benefits in large part from potential and perception. They changed their image overnight

Winner; C's, Just for shedding Kyrie

Loser; Nets, for signing Kyrie :) (and paying KD 35 million to rehab :))

Agree

Garnett & Pierce part #2

Kyrie heading towards downside and odds are KD will never be the same.

Once again too little too late for the Nets

And WTH is Jimmy Butler thinking?

Go to Houston, LA, or Golden State where you have a shot at winning.

I agree about the 80%. And that 80% may be him for the rest of his career. But 80% Durant on a talented team is enough to get to the finals and possibly win it. We are talking about a top 10 player of all time here.

Going through this injury at only 30 years old is a blessing for him. And what they repair ligaments with is usually horse cartilage. Takes time to get used to but it works and he’s going to be a force again

There were a few odd moves that went down yesterday...

D. Russell to the Warriors?

Russell is an improving, talented scoring guard. It's pretty easy for most players to fit with Curry, Thompson and Green, but he seems like an odd choice. He never stood out to me as much of a defender or rebounder. I know they lost Durant, who seemed like a much better fit with his size and D, not to even mention offensively which you just won't be able to match. Not sure why they felt so desperate to fill that salary spot that popped open with Durant leaving, they probably won't be a serious contender with Thompson next year anyway. Couldn't that save that slot for a better free agent in the price range next offseason?
Maybe the Warriors feel Thompson will be back before the end of the year and they will be legit champion contenders next year, so they are in win now mode. Can't blame them in that case I guess.

Nah, they couldn't. That's the thing to remember with the Russell deal. They were going to be capped besides bird rights on a few other roleplayers of theirs and exemptions.

Russell is really the only way they could bring in a high dollar player for the next few years. And it just so happened to work out for them that the team that signed Durant had a guy to send back to them that was also a top tier free agent that was leaving the Nets either way. Amazingly good fortune to salvage a massive loss.

I really don't even know what they will do with him. Doesn't seem like a great fit but I think they likely just figured get that asset now and salvage, then worry about the rest later.

As far as the Nets go, that just seems way too premature to start handicapping them at this point. They're not gonna play together for 16 months, 16 months can be an eternity in sports. Who knows what KD looks like when he comes back, who knows who else is on the team by then as they have a year to figure out what pieces they want around KD and what guys they can possibly move for other roleplayers. What do the other East teams look like in a year? Just tough to really have much of an opinion on that one right now.

Obviously if you are the Nets you just sign KD and hope it works out though. Unless his leg is getting amputated then you sign him, pay him for a year and see what happens. If he's even close to his apex, he's worth double what they're paying him to that organization. They just shit on the Knicks and stole the city from them for the time being.

They are going to have kyrie, deandre Jordan, and joe Harris for sure to go with KD. Nets have flexibility. Potentially could make some moves for a 3rd star by next year they could look even better. People for some reason thinking this is a bad thing for the Nets. It’s lunacy.

Kevin Durant is a jump shooter but he’s 6”10 and his shot is unblockable. He’s not a Kobe needing to elevate a lot on his jumper. That’s going to extend his career and give him a chance to reach elite level quicker again. People legit don’t get how rare of a player Durant is. His first year at G St, I called him their best player and somebody here said.....”really? Not curry?” How crazy is that. You want to talk about perception lol. Curry might have been their third best player.

This is true

But again history shows he will more than likely never be the same.

Is he gonna just camp the 3pt line like in that last game with GS?

I think the Knicks saying that they weren't willing to give KD a max contract is just their lame way of saving face, but I also have to wonder how much crap they would have gotten if they had actually signed KD - given their history of handing out big contracts to injured players. Now they have no choice but to try and build through the draft. They have to hope that Barrett turns into a star, and that Knox and Robinson continue to develop. No superstar free agent is going to sign with them until they start to win more than 17 games a season.

I think the Pelicans did pretty well overall. Butler going to Miami seems bizarre.

HEAT fans are very excited right now that they got Jimmy Butler and traded away Hassan Whiteside.

The HEAT are in "cap hell" and their whole roster is full of players would be (at best) the 5th best player on any good NBA team. Look at last year's final 8 teams in the playoffs. The HEAT didnt have a single player on last year's roster who would be a top 4 player on any final 8 team.

Jimmy Butler brings that to Miami.

Next, HEAT try to bring in Bradley Beal or Kevin Love.

The HEAT arent champion contenders this season or even eastern conf finals contenders, i get that. But its nice seeing an upgrade on this team without doing anything foolish.

Thought that was a great deal for Philly to get Horford and then swap Butler for Richardson. Paying those 2 same as it would’ve cost to retain Butler. Their D is going to be elite. By the time Horford is in year 4, Embiid might dead anyway. Should be trying to win now.

That's something I mentioned too. He's good and I wanted him to stay, but he's on the back 9 and he's going to be 37 when that contract is over

Guess the C's weren't interested in a long term deal. His player option would have paid him just over 31 million next season. He took a 1 year pay cut, he's obviously concerned he might not get the same long term deal after next season

PS: I don't blame him for taking the 97 million guaranteed over 31 million for next year AND then test the waters

Celts paid Kemba with cap room. They didn’t have Horfords bird rights once they did that, unless Nets were willing to do massive sign and trade but they weren’t.

Celts getting Kanter probably for the room exemption which is short money, that's nice value even though his D is rough.

I'm not going to pretend to keep up with NBA salary regulations, they just seem pretty fucked up to me

He can shoot over just about anyone without having to elevate very high.

He has played second fiddle his entire career. Never has been a ball dominant player. So put him anywhere he’s going to be successful.

If this happened at 35 years old he’d have a hard time getting back.

Horford is aging well as far as basketball years. He still looks like a good player. He’s a winner.
