There was a NFL Sunday a few years back, when the Eagles (with McNabb) were playing the Raiders... I tied the Eagles into every teaser and action-reverse I bet that day. Of course they lose outright.... to the Raiders. :ohno:

I remember this game and actually even though the Raiders sucked that year (per usual) they had like 4 SU wins of being +10 or more.

every time i've played live dealer blackjack. i've lost my whole roll several times doing just that. i'm pretty good at sports and can always grow my roll nicely, and then i go play blackjack ($100-$200 per hand). i start off really well there too and my roll gets up to a very nice amount for me (close to $10K).

and then a bad series of loses in a row and i'll of a sudden i'm in utter chase mode and betting unheard of amounts on each hand until it's all gone. definitely the sickest feeling in the world.

When I was 21 I got my online bankroll up to 2,997 from betting on the nba playoffs which was a lot for me then. I had won something like 17 of my last 20 games ATS and was feeling great. At the time it was the highest I had ever grown my roll by betting on sports.

I wanted to go to sleep with it at a nice even 3,000. So I bet $3 on red in the online roulette. It lost so then I bet 6. It lost so then I bet 12. Before I knew it I lost every penny of the 2997 and it was right up there with the sickest feelings of my life because I knew how incredibly stupid my actions were. Haven't touched an online casino since.

I did something similar to this when I was 18. It wasn't that I'm a degen or anything either, I don't have an addictive personality or anything. I just simply was young and dumb and didn't know any better. Doubling up after losing, no flat betting, with how rapid the cards are dealt you are 95% going to get killed doing this in a short amount of time.... I just didn't know anything about variance then and was a total idiot.

I understand completely.

Even now thinking back on it my stomach gets a little queasy remembering how horrific that felt.

I bet Jerry Cooney over Larry Holmes...The great white dope.

What was the price? I have no clue.

It is always interesting to hear about what the odds were beforehand for historic boxing fights but I don't know the answer to this one.

the feeling is so sick it's almost indescribable, your body is literally in shock.. just totally shaking and mentally you are destroyed. you put all this good work into capping your sports and playing pretty selectively where you really value each sports bet.

and then the next minute you are betting amounts on BJ that are equal to (or even bigger) than your sports bets. there does come the moment where you realize "what am i doing? i'm placing bets for amounts that i totally scrutinize myself for when it comes to sports, but now it's ok for BJ?". suddenly all discipline is completely out the window. worst part of all, it's not like you're playing bad BJ, you're playing it 'by the book'.

and then once the losing starts and snowballs, your only goal at that point is to get your balance back to where it was before you started playing BJ - i.e. your peak balance for just betting sports. you won't quit until it's back. then you cross the point of no return where you've now lost all your profits and you're back to your initial deposit amount. then you realize everything that you just worked so hard on for so long during sports is all gone and you can't imagine starting all over again and trying to build it back up. you're just exhausted at that point.

so you just continue betting disgusting amounts on each hand of BJ thinking if you just win like 4 in a row, you're back to a nice roll again. what happens at that point is you get a great double down hand only for the dealer to make an impossible 21. you only have enough left for one bet at that point and you don't even want to win it. you just want the horrible nightmare to be over.. you're completely numb and of course you lose it. that's how it's happened to me every single time, it's as if it's been scripted.

I look back at all the 4-5 team nba parlays i bet in college and wonder wtf I was thinking

I have also made some bad bet's on tilt that one. After a sick baseball loss earlier this season I did a 500 dollar parlay on the only two nba second half bet's that were available. They both won and the second one on a last second layup. Won 1200 but it was a really stupid bet.

ya this guy doesn't care about his online reputation.....somehow the worst bet he ever made was a winner...

Apparently you didn't read the whole thread.

And in the post you're referencing, if you think I won those 4-5 team nba parlays you're high

only thing i can possibly think of is that he bet a huge favorite on the ML to win $12.. like $200 to win $12 but it was a huge upset?

thats what I did. Bet a huge ml fav on a sport like soccer or cricket honestly I don't even remember the sport. Found the biggest ml fav on the board and bet it to win 12 bucks and lost over 200 when I woke up. I did not think I would have to explain it in detail. I figured most would figure it out. But sometimes you forgot there are people you have to go real slow with in order for them to understand

Wow. You just described EXACTLY what has happened to me many times when I was younger. Makes me sick thinking about how stupid I was back then.
