whoever said ET is right on.....I was young and saw it in the movie....the beginning where they are in the forrest and ET is rustling leaves and making weird yelling noises is fricking loud in the movie theatre speakers!

and when you are a little kid, that shit will scar you.

Nothing really since I was young until I saw the ring. When that girl crawled out the TV, that was the first time I ever felt the chills watching a movie.

When I was little I saw the Excocist when it came out. I slept with a cross for the next few weeks. That movie scared the crap out of me.

When you get older are there really any scary movies anymore? I have seen nothing in the last 25 years or so that have been scary at all.

Exorcist and Night of the living Dead (original b/w)

For me, the Exorcist has to be #1 with George Romero's original Night of the Living Dead (black and white) as #2.

I went and saw the Exorcist the first day it opened..I think it took alot of people by surprise because when her head did that 180 about 20 people ran out of the theatre. There hadn't been any movie made up to that point that had even close to that much shock value.

Another movie that I thought was pretty good was the later version of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers..That movie had an eerie feel about it that really bothered me at the time. I guess it was the idea of I didn't know who was human and who was alien because the aliens did a good job of faking it. It was made about 30 years ago but it still holds up pretty well today.

Newer movie, the descent. Saw it 3 times and even though I knew every scare coming I jumped a mile. Not gorry or stupid just scare after scare after scare. If you havent seen it, great scare for Halloween.

Just watched that film today...I was shocked about how good it was...Starts off slow but the last 40 mins is wicked....Top notch film...

If by best you mean scariest for me the most frieghtening flick when it first came out was "The Excorcist" (the original). Also very scary the first time around although not really considered as a pure 100% horror movie was the original "Jaws".

I have been a huge horror movie my whole life but am not a slasher movie fan. I like scary movies not just pure blood and gore for 90 minutes.

Another extremely scary movie that imo is not considered a pure horror movie is Alfred Hitchcock's nail biting, nightmare producing "Psycho".

The separate scary movie genre's of horror and thiller sometime are difficult to separate as being one genre or the other.

wil..
The Excorcist is by far the scariest I ever saw, I guess its the thought of shit like that being real.First time I saw it I was about 13.Still scares me.

The Exorcist. I first saw it on TV as a kid, alone at night with one lamp on...never again.

The Shining was scary too as Kubrick set the mood perfectly and Nicholson's over-the-top acting was perfect for his role.

Blair Witch was the scariest thing I ever saw in a theater. Just saw the Omen again last night. Still kicks ass.
