So I have a local who stiffed me for a little over $700. This was quite a few months ago. He claims to have gone out of business and to not have a dime to his name. I have his cellphone number, along with his email address. I was going to send the following message to him.

Anything that y'all would change? Or anything else that y'all would say? Thanks.

---
(Bookie's name)

To date, you owe me in excess of $700. This is a debt months old and to date, you have made no attempts whatsoever to settle this debt.

If you do not make payment arrangements to settle this by August 14th, I will have no choice but to contact the authorities regarding this matter. I will forward them the emails that you sent out as part of your service, as well as provide witnesses that will attest to the fact that you were participating in illegal bookmaking.

Now, I may not be able to get my $700 back, but I am quite sure that the trouble that you will incur because of this will be much more expensive than the $700 debt that you owe me. I am giving you until August 14th in order for you to have the time to raise the money, despite the fact that the past few months should have been more than enough time.

I can be contacted at (my email address) if you wish to make arrangements for payment. Even a payment plan, created in good faith, will be acceptable.

(my name)

Also, any advice about getting stiffed by a local would be extremely helpful by anyone who can provide it.

Thanks guys.

I wouldn't get into the habit of dropping a dime on anyone.

Having him arrested won't get your money back, move on...

not sure what the authorities could do.....I agree with Jimmy...you got stiffed which is a sad and deadbeat thing for that guy to do....but I would not turn into a snitch

it wont help the matter, the police are going to say

"Ok Mr ..... so let me get this straight you say you bet 700$ with a bookie huh and he has not paid you? and you want us to arrest him? ...did you know that betting is illegal also?"

and this might make it WORSE for you

good luck in what you decide

making a bet is NOT illegal....

you can make a $1,000,000 bet with your buddy and it is perfectly legal... however when someone takes a bet and changes the "juice"..... that is illegal....

Snitches get stitches.

Just track him down and beat the living shit out of him. At least you'll get a little satisfaction out of it.

Either that, or track him down and threaten to kill him or something...maybe if he thinks you're actually crazy enough to follow through on it, he'll pay you the $700. Make it seem like you're desperate for the $700 and will literally kill his ass if you don't get it. Worth a shot.

Looks like extortion to me. May not be worth the trouble/cost to you for $700.

Stop crying over $700. It's part of the game when you play with a local. Just as it is for the player to suddenly disappear when it comes time to pay the book. The days of threats and violence from locals are over as people are so willing to run to the police if threatened.

Let it go until you find out this guy is taking action again, then start pestering him again. The good news for you is, unless you were down historically with him, this was $700 pure profit that you didn't have to lay down to make the wager, so it's really no loss to you. Sorry you got stiffed.

It is extortion. You will wind up in trouble more than him plus since you are a bettor you will be asked to cooperate in an investigation into illegal bookmkaing in your area. If you do not they will investigate your phone records etc. Let it go.

Let the $700 go. It is part of the business sometimes. I know you are pissed off. But, listen to everyone on here!! You asked for advice and you are getting some good stuff.

You start threatening either calling the authorities or physical violence and then we're reading about you in the obits cuz the dumb fucker got scared and decided to kill you in a parking lot at night. Don't threaten. If he ever starts booking again then talk to him. Otherwise, consider him out of business.

It is not worth the money to have someone or even some people out there wanting you 'gone' and out of their hair. Good luck. tulsa

Just go on down the road an chalk it up to experience.

Dropping a dime on someone or ever threating to do so, could be harmful to your heath.

I do know this, if someone threaten me with the Police, i would STIFF them in a NEW YORK second. Besides the Police would not take hold of this in no way shape, form or fashion. They have more important things to deal with besides someone who 'supposedly" was betting illegally with an illegal bookmaker. This is just like calling the kettle black.

Seriously though.........

What does he do for a living? Maybe you can take it out in trade. I have a guy who has owed my more than 11k for almost 3 years and he is not paying me, but he owns a liquor store, so about once a week I just go in and grab a few bottles and a some cigs and walk out. He knows he still owes me the 11k and I will continue to do this until he pays me. My sister is getting married and I told him that I will be needing a big order and I will knock some off the money from his tab, but it will only be for his cost.

Maybe you can get the guy to cut your grass or something if he is a true deadbeat.

Definitely don't take it to the cops as that could come back to haunt you later down the line. Do you know where he lives, works, hangs out, etc? If so, go steal his hubcaps, stereo, or some other property of his to equal out the $700. Two wrongs don't make a right, but you're sure feel better!

don't narc, but you should show up at his business and make a little scene like talking loudly about the debt, or call him at his house real late at night or real early in the morning multiple times, just keep pressure on him not in a threating way but hell just get so sick of you he might pay
