Well, as far as I know, he's an unemployed bum living with his parents. My locals' maybe 25. I didn't know it at the time, but he was SEVERELY underbankrolled for being a bookie.

A lot of the opinions here state that I should just let it go. I dunno...I was considering that for a long time, but it just doesn't feel right.

I guess I'm "only" out the original $250 that I gave him, but I put plays with him that I didn't place at books, so damn...

Anybody else have any more insights? Because of the vast majority of people saying that I should just leave it alone, I'm considering this again.

Also, none of my wagers with him were ever over $200. The majority of them were risking 110 to win 100.

Oh: one more thing.

I think I may have conveyed something crappily. If I went to the cops, my $700 is immediately forfeit. I know that.

It would be more of "Hey: Austin PD. I know a guy who participated in illegal bookmaking and I can prove it with the lines that he sent me and with other witnesses. Would you like to do something about that?"

I know that getting him in trouble doesn't get my money back. What it SHOULD do is get him off his ass and have him start getting my money. It's no necessarily about what's in it for ME, but what will happen to HIM if I turn it in. Just like poker, it's not always what *I* have that's important; it's what the other guy *doesn't* have.

Now that I've cleared that up, anyone else have any more insights?

Well you can make the police threats and maybe he will freak out and give in and try to at least pay you some of it back like the original 250 you posted up at least. Seeing as he is 25, unemployed, broke and lives with his parents you could, in no particular order:

Burn a cross on his front lawn
Trow a bowling ball into kids car windshield
Trow a cocktail threw house picture window
Spray paint the garage door

Anyway, you should know where he lives so perhaps you can catch him out and about and rough him up. Don't let him get away with this. Arson is also a possibility.

You're letting him off way to easy on this stiff job IMO. Go get'em.
