something i totally forgot to mention
one of the biggest shifts is that it's going to be necessary to start cooking your own food for a majority of the meals
even eating what looks healthy (ie. sub from a deli) is going to have more calories than you expect.

Yep, and to add, meal prep is key to staying on track. Spend 2-3 hours on a Sunday (Wednesday for me too) prepping everything and proportioning it out. It’s way easier to eat healthy and stay on track when it’s already prepared and ready to go...

Sometimes I let these guys take care of some of it. They’re good, and a franchise is tempting for a place like this...

Good for you Illini, if you are like me as gamblers we tend to have an addictive personality so when I do something I tend to really focus on it like exercise. Gambling not so much anymore, life and kids gets in the way of that.

My advice, anything is better than nothing so ANY exercise is better than nothing. As we get older it's gets a lot harder, I do weights over my lunch hour, cardio in the evening. I do not workout 7 days a week, your body needs time to recover. Doing all cardio and no weights wont' burn fat near as well as doing both but if you are trying to lose 100 lbs that's a little different story. At your weight loss goal I think 5 lbs a week is do-able but really slow that down as you get closer to your goal. 1-2 pounds a week is what I would aim for if you truly want to lose it and keep it off.

Once you get doing something (I don't know what your level of fitness is) make sure you switch it up and doing different things. If you do an elliptical do it at different speeds, different distance, different intensity, etc. What I mean is don't set it on a single speed every workout, for the same amount of time everytime. While again that's better than nothing, your body will get used to it. I run, I bike, I sprint, I do some of the P90x cardio stuff, Insanity, etc and see great results. I know someone just starting into a fitness routine can't do all of that but down the road I would. There is a reason people see immediate great results from P90x and insanity not because they have some magic workout that has never been done but they really break down a lot of different things that your body hasn't seen at the same time and they keep changing it up and get your heart rate up. Nothing people can't do on their own, but I see some guys at my gym that do the same routine every single time and then wonder why they don't see results or they don't push themselves.

Agree with a couple others who said plan your meals but don't be so strict that you never cheat. Shock your body that way too and eat McDonalds or something you love sometimes too.

Good luck!

Twice this past year ive lost 20-25 pounds.

Eat almonds or fruit in the morning.

Small early lunch.

Burn 500-600 calories on treadmill on lunch hour (30-45 minutes actually).

Dinner

Mon-Friday & i eat what i want on the wknds.

The small dieting was important but no doubt in my mind it's the treadmill contributung the most as im burning far more calories than im taking in each day.

Not as good as a treadmill in my opinion.
To each their own. Both are better than sitting on the couch. I get better results with zero cardio at all, and if it’s needed, sprints,HIIT (short sessions), and jump rope are where it’s at...

Ha true

I used to be extra-active.

YMCA every evening & then 2hrs on the basketball Court.

On wknds pickup games with a group of guys who would drive around central FL looking for competition.

But im mid 40's now & although in decent shape, ive put on weight.

I can take it off when i commit as i mentioned i did twice this year.

But the older you get, it seems the busier you get & the less time you have in the day.

I've lost about 60 pounds during the past two years. From 290 to 230 now. I always got a moderate amount of exercise from work, cutting grass, etc.

I've always drank too much pepsi and mountain dew along with about a case or two of beer per week and sweets.

The crux is that I actually like a cold pepsi poured into a glass of crushed ice. Nothing else could replace that for me. What I did instead was reduce the pepsi and nearly eliminate the late night eating and beer. At work, I now live by a rule that for every can of pepsi or dew I drink, I follow it with drinking 12-16 oz of water.

I still drink beer but now it's at most 4-6 beers per week and many weeks it's 0...I don't miss it because I really never liked beer.

I hope it works for you, but personally crash dieting and becoming a workout warrior only would have caused me to fall crash back into my normal lifestyle.

Good luck.

Have you tried Coke & Pepsi Zero (No Sugar)?

It takes some time to get used to, but after you do the regular sodas will be much too sweet to you.

I'm able to mix diet mountain dew with regular, but pepsi it has to be original. Giving up late night eating and beer was much easier.

I did Whole 30 for a month, lost 15 pounds, I didn't have to exercise at all. The downsides were the headaches you get around day 3-4 from cutting sugar out of your diet, spending the 30 days usually feeling hungry, and having to read the labels on everything at the grocery store. No sugar, dairy, soy, flour, or carbs so you're basically just eating eggs, fruits, veggies, nuts, and meat for one month. Good luck on your journey, sounds like you have the willpower to get it done.

There it is. Add exercise in it though and you will be shedding weight.

Downside is definitely headaches at first. But that’s because sugar is more addictive than crack.

Just shop around the edges of the grocery store. Think about it. Veggies, meat, fruit, nuts, eggs, almond milk are all on the edges of the store no matter where you go. Everything in the middle isles is added sugars.

Only section worth anything is produce. Too bad most of it is conventional gmos. Have you ever heard anyone say they were going to heal themselves with meat, eggs and dairy? Exactly. Drops mic
