MLB | Dodgers vs Rangers
Play on: Dodgers -143 at BetPhoenix
My Bonus Play is on the LA Dodgers at 8:05 ET. The Dodgers have won four in a row after last night's 8-4 victory in Texas, cutting their deficit in the National League West to just one game. The 71-61 Dodgers play again tonight in Arlington, wrapping up a brief two-game IL series with the Rangers, before returning home to welcome the 72-60 Diamondbacks to Dodger Stadium for a four-game weekend series. Texas has lost three straight contests and five of its last seven, giving them a 58-75 record. The team is on pace to win just 70 or 71 games and currently resides 23 1/2 games behind the Houston Astros in the AL West.
Alex Wood (7-6, 3.60 ERA) takes the mound tonight and will be pitching on three days of extra rest after having his scheduled start on Sunday pushed back so manager Dave Roberts could have his top-four starters face Arizona beginning on Thursday. Wood is just 3-7 in 20 career interleague games (15 starts) but does own a respectable 3.21 ERA in those games. Let's also note that he's allowed three ERs or less in 12 straight outings. Texas lefty Mike Minor (10-6, 4.40 ERA) will oppose Wood. Minor won his fourth straight game last Wednesday, after allowing one hit over six scoreless innings in a 4-2 win over Oakland. His overall season is hardly impressive but he does own a 6-2 record with a 3.23 ERA in his last 12 starts since the beginning of June (Rangers are 7-5 in that span). Minor is 1-2 with a 2.56 ERA in seven career appearances vs the Dodgers (six starts).
Both starting pitchers come in performing well but I'll side with the Dodgers, who can ill-afford a loss to the lowly Rangers, ahead of their four-games series with the D'backs. LA is averaging a healthy 5.25 RPG on the road, which is almost almost a run higher than the team averages at home (4.34 per). Meanwhile, Texas is a poor 29-39 at home, where it allows a whopping 6.04 RPG. Play the Dodgers.
