Sorry I kinda abadoned ship on you all, but I had to make sure that we were all prepared up here in Tallahassee. Even though it doesn't look like we are going to take a direct hit, we can already feel some of the feeder bands and will be getting the worst side of this storm. My parents think I'm crazy for staying... most of the city thinks so too... kids are filing out of here by the ton...

But what I've got right now is the same stuff you all do. Imminent land fall somewhere within about 25 miles give or take of the Alabama/Florida line, which means the dangerous range of this storm will be from about 50-60 miles east of Tallahassee (Live Oak is the name people are throwing out there for anyone that knows the area) to New Orleans. Storm will take a slight turn to the north thanks to the jet's flow over Texas. Winds expected to intensify into a strong category 3/weak category 4 hurricane by landfall, making this storm incredibly dangerous. The only godsend for all of us up here on the Gulf is that this storm should increase speed rapidly and get in and get out quickly. But landfall will be projected at some point in the middle of tonight/early tomorrow and be fully onshore by the 5:00 PM EST advisory.

Guess I'm gonna be doing a lot of this :drink: ... this weekend should be fun. Mr. Daniels is becoming a very good friend of mine and my roommate's over the course of the next 36 hours or so... I'll let you all know if anything weird is going on while I can and have power (I expect power to fritz in probably about 8 hours... the infrastructure of this city sucks).

The storm's path is wobbling to the west a little. New Orleans is NOT out of the woods.

Thanks for the Tally update .... makes me homesick sort of .... I spent some great years there and I still get back several times a year to see the old crew. I never went through a hurricane there but definitely saw some crazy azz weather ... I still have a pic of me sitting on the Barnett Bank sign with the temp at 0 degrees.

Be safe ..... my advice - hurricane party at Bulwinkles....later, G

Thanks for the confidence in this one Fishhead... Probably gonna be the last time I can update this, as weather is beginning to take a bit of a turn for the worst, but the latest I've got is that Dennis is beginning to track a bit more in a true northwest form than a kinda half-way between northwest and north-northwest form. This is a bit strange and could just be some satellite discrepancies, but nonetheless is something to monitor. But regardless, a landfall at some point in the next 12-16 hours is inevitable, and truthfully, exactly where this storm hits is probably of little consequence. Anyone from about New Orleans through to Apalachicola is screwed... Dennis should be a category 3 storm at landfall, not as bad as once figured. Speed hasn't increased dramatically, perhaps 2 MPH faster than upon its exit from Cuba, but should pick up speed as it gets closer to land.

That info was good from about 5:45 EST.... if I get anything else between now and power outage I'll let you all know.

Glaken... forget about party at Bullwinkle's... I've already got some Jack and Coke in me, burgers on the grill, and a gallon of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream ready in the freezer, hoping we get through to tonight... My roommate, myself, and a couple chicks from the next apartment down are enjoying ourselves, totally oblivious to the fact that winds are probably around 30 MPH outside and it's starting to rain in sheets... First feeder bands are onshore it appears.

*Note: I apologize if this was a little off, as I'm not proofreading, and as I said... already had myself a couple Jack and Cokes.*

Best wishes and a safe weekend to all.

Storm continues to track a bit more west, VERY good news for me in Tallahassee, though I must say some of the fun has already began. As I said before, feeder bands are starting to come onshore. As far as the word from the National Weather Service, little is new... Barometeric pressure has estimated to drop about 5-10 MB in the past couple hours, which means we'll probably see about 120-125 MPH winds at the next report in an hour or so. But we're still alright.

Hache-- How have things been in Orlando? My cell phone service is out and I can't get a hold of my family to make sure they are okay...

Fish-- Hope things are well. The worst should be over for you.

Best to you all.

AFL, I actually live a bit farther South than Orlando now, closer to Lakeland, but things are fine here. Some rain, wind, but nothing serious. My buddy who lives in Orlando says not bad there. Good luck to whoever ends up being in it's path........

Haha... wind is whipping around ridiculously at the current moment in Tallahassee... Small tree outside of my apartment has been knocked over, but aside from that, no problems of yet, but obviously this is just the beginning...

Hey gang... sorry this is a bit late, but I've been a bit preoccupied with some of the happenings outside... Weather here is consistently bad... we're already getting a little bit of flooding here in Tallahassee... maybe an inch of rain on the ground. Just that one tree is still down.

But the 10:00 EST report had Dennis as a 125 MPH hurricane, with pressure dropping at the rate of on average 2 MB per hour. Dennis will be at least 130 MPH when coming onshore, which is about 10-15 MPH higher than expected early in the day, but right along the lines of the projection last night and early this morning. Storm continues to trek to the northwest at around 15 MPH, and will probably reach 17-18 MPH by landfall...

Damn Fish, you weren't kidding about this one being a b^tch... Absolutely raining cats and dogs, but I'm amazed to know that I still have power despite the fact that the weather has been absolutely horrible all night. I've heard word from the National Weather Service that there have been a few funnel clouds spotted in the counties to the west of me, which bares a good sign for the next 10-12 hours for me, but not so good for our friends in eastern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the very western part of Florida... but aside from the couple funnel clouds, no tornado touch-dows reported as of about 8:15 EST, thus damage is likely very minimal at this point... but the fun is just getting started... If I get more before the power goes out, I'll keep you all informed.

I got Florida landfall at +150. Nothing personal Fish, it's business.

I thought this was a gambling website!

Anyway I sold Florida at a small profit and bought Alabama and Mississippi. Also got a small bet, laying no impact at -228, when the storm weakened to category 2 going over Cuba.

This monster isn't far off Category 5 now and it looks like its going straight for Biloxi. I sure hope everyone's got out of there.

Woody--

I believe everyone in the coastal parts of eastern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and western Florida were evacuated yesterday afternoon at the latest. But yes, this storm has spent too much time over the waters and needs to come inland... hasn't sped up enough, though I believe last report had it up to 17 MPH if I'm not mistaken.

Pensacola is becoming ground zero. Looks like a direct hit within the next couple of hours.

Haven't heard anything from the National Weather Service in several hours. Just seems like everyone in the building is sitting back in awe over the destruction this storm is producing. Fortunately, here in Tallahassee the worst appears to be over. Power has remained functional throughout. We had a lot of high winds that snapped a few smaller trees and branches, but nothing like what they are experiencing right around the border of Florida and Alabama. My best goes out to everyone in those areas, though I am very thankful that it appears for the time being anyway, that the worst is over and very little damage is done in my side of the world.
