Someone said to take an unplayable lie, would he have to get a rules official to confirm that?
the ball would be lying in the fairway.
You can declare a ball unplayable at any time. When you do you have 3 options...

1. Keep spot of ball between you and hole and go back as far as you want and drop

2. Take 2 club lengths from spot of ball no nearer hole and drop

3. Return to your original spot where you hit previous shot and hit from there.

All incur a 1 Shot penalty.

So wait...

you're saying he doesn't KNOW you have to wait for the ball TO STOP.....

hhmmm....interesting....

Thats not what I said. If he knows the rules he would have done what I said and took the unplayable lie and probably would have made an 8 instead of a 10. So, yes I still say he didn’t know the rules since he did something that cost him 2 shots.

Seriously, Phil wasn't cheating. He broke the rules and got penalized. I personally think he was pissed off and did it out of frustration. I'm not buying what he said about him thinking the two strokes penalty was better then where he would have been, yada yada.

It's not really cheating if there was zero chance to get away with it. Now if he did something like kick his ball out of a bad spot when he thought nobody was watching. Then I would say he is a cheater.

Who said he cheated or even tried to cheat? His actions were unprofessional and the USGA could have DQed him if they wanted to but it had nothing to do with cheating.

Anytime you break the rules on purpose that’s cheating

So when a QB intentionally grounds the ball he is cheating. And when a defensive back holds a wide receiver on purpose to prevent a big play when he is beat, he actually cheated. Or how about when a basketball player commits a foul on purpose at end of game that player actually cheated according to you. Lots of cheating going on in your world.

In all of these examples including Phil, penalties were applied. So exactly what advantage was gained? Your definition proves you wrong since no advantage was gained, therefore there was no cheating. Just a breach in the rules.

Obviously not, since Phil hit it while it was still moving. If you think he cheated doing that, why did he not gain an advantage like the definition says?

He did gain an advantage he had like a 4 foot putt instead of being like 10 yards off the green
