obviously not, since phil hit it while it was still moving. If you think he cheated doing that, why did he not gain an advantage like the definition says?

b/c he's phil....

Usga & phil should be ashamed...

He did gain an advantage he had like a 4 foot putt instead of being like 10 yards off the green

but he was penalized according to the rule......so it isnt cheating....just not along the ways you should play but not cheating. cheating would be if he got away with it and lied about it....i dont like what he did if there was a penalty for doing it and it was assessed then its not cheating. i think it was against everything the sport of golf is intended to be but its not cheating.

Right again you get a penalty when you cheat
Are you really stupid or just being an asshole? It’s obvious you don’t really understand golf rules but saying anytime an athlete is assessed a penalty means he cheated is just being idiotic.

I noticed your name, slapshot and the picture and assume you are a hockey fan. By your logic , every single player in the NHL is a cheater. Not one honest player, they are all cheaters. And you are still a fan despite being a league consisting only of cheaters?

The complaining is usually a tactic by the long ball hitters to make sure courses are only made more difficult by lenthening, thus giving them an advantage over the shorter but potentially more accurate players.

I will tell you the most boring kind of golf to watch in the whole world as a fan ... and that is fairway, green, 1 or 2 putt. Time for a nap.

They are all playing the same course. The course cannot be unfair. It is just the course. The scores of a tournament are reflective of the comparative ability of the entrants to manage and play the course. That's it.

Just a bunch of whiny entitled rich guys.

Phil is thinking "Wait ... I have to be accurate and make good decisions? I have no shot now." Improve your game Phil.

some of you really need to get on with your lives

Just glad it wasn’t Tiger....this thread would have gone on forever....

Getting back to the question, the golf course looked great before the wind and the sun took its toll....PGA pros were happy before the tournament started....

I don't want to get into it with anyone about definitions but I would NOT say cheating. In my mind, cheating means you hope (as little or as much possibility) to get away with it and that said action go unnoticed. There was no way Phil thought this would go unnoticed. He assessed his own penalty.

If anything, you can say he is dishonorable or is disrespecting the game. Especially for a game where integrity runs very very high.
