1- Bush (USC)
2- Leinart (USC)
3- Peterson (Oklahoma)
4- Omar Jacobs (Bowling Green)
5- Chris Leak (Fla)

Omar Jacobs is a sleeper. His 2004 numbers were ridiculous:

328-of-490 (66.9%) for 4,347 yards, 45 TDs and 4 INTs – 113 rushes for 389 yards and 6 TDs

Yep...45 TDs and 4 INTs. He will get some love early on from the Gameday crew which will put him on the map early.

great pic, journeyman! I was at that game (and it was the first OSU game for my 7-year-old godson).

Ginn is a man playing against boys!

I would throw out the following

Vince Young, Maroney, and Deangelo Williams as top contenders.

I like Maroney as a somewhat darkhorse..He should easily get to 2k yards this year.

Love Ginn and Young, and one of them should be in the hunt for the national title, after their teams play in Columbus, but to bet against Leinart and Bush, is to throw away money.

OMAR JACOBS - QB - BOWLING GREEN

41-4 TD/INT RATIO LAST SEASON. OVER 4 DIMES PASSING YARDS. OF COURSE A MAC QB WILL NOT WIN, BUT THIS GUY IS AMAZING.

IM LOOKING FOR AN UPSET IN MADISON SEPT 3 WHEN THE BG FALCONS ROLL INTO TOWN.

Watch out for Chris Leak in Urban Meyer's system. He will put up ridiculous numbers.

Leak will be a stud this year :103631605

Adrian Peterson.

I think Bush is great in his own right but split votes amongst him and Linehart will cost him. Besides the other guy (is it white?) at RB will cut into his stats.

surprised it took so long for Peterson to get a mention

First, you have to look at a team that will likely win at least 9 regular season games. That is fundamental.

Second, with the exceptions of Andre Ware (Houston), Rashaan Salaam (Colorado), Doug Flutie (Boston College), Ty Detmer (BYU) and Barry Sanders (Oklahoma State), all of the heisman winners since '82 have played in stadiums that currently seat 70,000 or more.

Lastly, the only player on the list who was completely un-listed as a preseason heisman candidate was Barry Sanders. All the rest were at least on the pre-season heisman radar.

So stick with teams that will likely win 9 games with large stadiums and then look at the pre-season candidates.

There are eight players who are worthy of consideration, in my opinion:

Matt Leinart (USC)
Adrian Peterson (OU)
Reggie Bush (USC)
Ted Ginn (Ohio State)
Vince Young (Texas)
Chris Leak (Florida)
Reggie McNeal (Texas A & M)
Chad Henne (Michigan)

QB's are much more likely to win than running backs and running backs are much more likely to win than wide receivers. If I were betting, I would play Leinart, Young, Leak, McNeal and Henne.
