sorry you can't justify Patriots letting go of Vinateri

this is what i love about internet forums...you spend a good amount of time explaining an opinion...and someone counters w/ 'no' (and no counter evidence)...always gives me a good laugh. :103631605

Quantum...kickoffs were last on my list of reasons why the Pats did not re-sign him...like < 1% of the basis for the decision...obviously clutch kicks outweigh kickoffs. Throwing around an 'extra' million dollars - is something the Pats don't do...i can't yell this enough, its their business philosophy & won't bend for anything. Its very successful. And this recent releasing of Vander...just solidifies why you don't spend over $3.5 mill to a kicker past his prime.

Bizarre move IMO. I can't trust Gramatica

:ohno: I just can't see this being a good move...Vandy was struggling a little though, but Gramatica was real bad his last two seasons from what I remember.

This is not a good move, how can you take a guy who was out of football over a guy who has been as consistent as anyone not named Matt Stover or Adam Ventierri?

Well he is a little flaky and that probably doesn't fit in with Parcells, I could see it being a sticky relationship knowing how Parcells is, but I would have kept him. Dallas knew what they were getting....You just don't see top 5 kickers waived in week 12 for a scrub who hasn't kicked well in 4 years...Dallas is taking a big chance here.

He was 4th forth from the bottom of the league though...still seemed like an odd move right now.

I saw a stat on TV that was saying Vanderjagt's numbers this year weren't as good as the last 2 years. Looking at this year's numbers he's not doing too bad. Below are the stats for the 1st 10 games from nfl.com. The 11th game he missed 2 FG's and the 12th game he was 1 for 1. Not a bad season IMO. Maybe the 2 he missed in week 11 were from 40-49 which would put him at 1 for 6 and that was a reason they decided to cut him.

Well he is 4th from the bottom in % which is a little surprising, but the guy is a proven commodity...people will remember his troubles over his record streak...he's a bit of a headcase, Parcells was probably growing weary of his quirkyness....plus I read he didn't want to kick off .

It's not like Granatica was kicking 50 yarders with no time on the clock anytime in the past 3 years either though....this move could cost Dallas the whole ball of wax.

I feel like this move can only hurt Dallas not really help them.

I didn't like the move at first as a Cowboy fan but the more I think about it I'm okay with it. Seriously, if the Cowboys are in a tight game in January do they want or trust Vanderbitch to make a big kick at this point in his career? I sure as hell woudn't, the guy is a mental nutcase, especially after that chokejob he pulled in last year's playoffs. Good riddance Mikey...:bigfinger

When will teams learn that you should sign kickers based on their kickoffs? FG% is a largely random stat and varies from year to year on an almost universal basis. There is no such thing as a good FG kicker.

A good kicker is one who kicks kickoffs out of the endzone every time. His FG% will fluctuate just like every other kicker out there.
