Going to go on a good old fashioned family vacation..

My Mother, My grandmother, Sister, including all significant others.. Probably 8 people...

I need suggestions.. Even what Beaches.. Fine with anything in Mid-Atlantic - obviously Atlantic coast.

Going Late Summer, Early Fall.. Sept or even early Oct...

Must Have Needs:
Sleeps 8+
Must be on the beach (not across the street)
Internet, Cable, Grill
Value over Luxury

Preferences
Less Croweded Beaches
Pool

I'd go as far south as South Carolina, but would prefer to not even go that far

If willing to go out of country aruba is the best tropical destination that time of year because it's outside the hurricane belt.

Will be traveling there myself for the first time this august

Outer Banks (NC) is great....but it's a bitch to drive to. I've heard horror stories about getting in there (6-8 hours for what is normally a 3-4 hour drive).

Dewey Beach/Rehobeth (DE) is nice also.

Myrtle Beach is okay, very touristy though.

Cape May, NJ is very nice as well. You can take the ferry across to Lewes, DE and hit Dewey/Rehobeth beaches.

yeah I was beginning my VRBO Search with the NC beaches but still so much to check, you prefer outter banks to say nagshead?

really hoping someone would have rented specific houses that met me specifications

I've only rented a place in OBX once. It was a condo and it was fine. I think "Nags Head" is considered OBX...it's a really long strip of small beach towns (Corolla, Kill Devil Hills, Manteo, Avon, Duck). I've had friends who have rented mega-houses and do it every year.

yeah those mega houses are ideal in that area. get a lot for you money... thanks for the info. I didn't know Nags head was considered OBX

If SC is too far South OBX (Outer Banks) would be my vote I suppose though overall its too touristy for me personally. Crowds and all that comes with a large concentration of tourists....those sort of beaches won't be recommended by me.

If South Carolina can be put into play Folly Beach SC. Approximate to Charleston. Laid Back, downright peaceful really.

Too Quiet, "lifeless" for some actually but near enough to Charleston to have action/great historic attractions if Folly itself is too slow. Removed from Charleston by...11 (?) Miles, I forget exactly how far but a really cool thing is it will often be cloud cover in Charleston but totally clear in Folly Beach, so close so this helps to keep Tourists (visiting Charleston) away cuz they see cloudy and figure "not a good beach day" while never realizing.....

I crept down the East Coast from OBX to St. Augustine hitting every beach along the way to see which was Best and the result was Tybee Island GA. Folly Beach SC & St. Augustine being the best but most wouldn't agree because my main criteria was uncrowdedness, inexpensiveness, friendly locals and the presence of Dive Bar(s) though Folly really didn't have that it still made my list cuz theres just something cool about it, real "local" type beach though its so close to a big city and is a pretty "big" beach in itself. "Below the Radar" I guess.

Used to go to cape may every year for 15 straight years. Took the ferry almost every time. Great family atmosphere. Wild wood is only a few minutes away as well.

Yeah, St. Augustine is awesome. Along the East Coast the Beaches themselves can be very spotty, limited sandy shoreline when i was in Myrtle near the whole damn beach got washed away, exceptionally high tide I don't know what...storm surge i was consistently far too drunk to understand but as soon as you hit Florida then the Beaches get real and the surf gets..."more" real. By East Coast standards anyways. Absent a storm I'd reckon there isn't real "surf" on the East Coast, really disappointed in The Earth in this regard. When I was in St. Aug there was a free trolley that took people from bar to bar. Among the best inventions ever.

Nah I was just trying to suggest something a little outside the box for that time of year.

Also, you can actually travel outside the country to al all inclusive and save money as compared to going somewhere in the states.
