Not sure which one of your many misguided posts to single out.
In these active shooter situations law enforcement is supposed to do exactly what you described as "full retard mode" or "John Wick mode." Do whatever you need to do to breach the room and take out the active shooter. Even if there is a single choke point or even if it's possible he could have hostages, even if it means putting your life at extreme risk as the first one into the room as a "stack."
This wasn't a hostage situation with a threat of lives being lost. This was an active shooter in school, with known casualties looked in a room, with the kids calling 911 from the room pleading for help. This was 95% chance of total cowardice maybe 5% chance of just incompetence. Now that more details are out about the guy making the calls it looks like 100% cowardice, so he was very experienced and was trained what to do but was to scared to act as kids were getting killed. Can't condemn the whole unit just yet, because it would take it to another level to ignore your commanding officer in a spot like this. Thank god BORTAC got there and eventually said fuck that to the local police hanging back.
No not misguided. Nobody wants to address the situation and variables and have never probably been in any contact with gunfire. Everyone wants to process after the fact with details. It’s the arm chair quarterback I would they should of. And look at the details after the fact. They are all over the place.
Now imagine being there in the moment.
Your point is full reatard mode. Team Tropic Thunder doesn’texist. No, you just don’t recklessly give up your life. The fact is you’re looking at 15ish dead in first 5 minutes. You can Rambo in all you want and maybe you save 3-4 more kids but those actions also may cost 3-4 more lives without information and a tactic. Now who you answering to? That happens Media and people are screaming why did they run in. It’s a no win situation. And you know that’s what happens.
Not sure 3 cops with 9mm engaging a AR caliber weapon who were first on the scene could have done much unless shooter was vulnerable positions. Probably why they retreated to reassess the situation. Ever fired a rifle? I’d assume you have probably. Any idea how loud and disoriented that is inside hallways? Loud as hell just outside. The echoing inside hallway/ building will cause chaos alone. The tac team didn’t arrive 5 minutes later either. (These Tac teams in a small town like that are useless anyway. You are just not going to find enough reliable resources with limited options. And training a few days a year ain’t cutting it. All for show and stupid really as they can’t handle just any situation) These guys, some probably not on shift. Call goes out they scramble to get there. Are debriefed as quick as possible with very little info. Why some jack wagon safety school district guy cop was calling shots idk. If he wasn’t on scene.
The kids calling 911 were in all sorts of places. an adjacent room with a door to a classroom likely called confusion. Job requires you put your life on the line. It doesn’t mean you are required to go full retard and do something dumb and get killed. It doesn’t mean you do nothing either. You can’t just start pulling kids out into areas that are still hostile either. What if evacuation the shooter moves or blindly fires. What if there are more than 1 shooters. Where are they?
Which is exactly what happens just running in the room. Door was locked and it’s not the kind of door in your bathroom. Ramming that door is highly likely causing gunfire into that door and you would be without protection. Now someone dead or injured. Next man up rinse repeat. Now did they have breaching charges on scene off the rip I’d argue shit definitely should have gone down quicker.
I’m not arguing the cops did everything right. I’m just opening up variables to why you just don’t Rambo in a door off the rip. It’s just a fucked up situation that had variables which unless you train 24-7 and have a 24-7 on call by the phone specialist team, nothing is going to go down within 20 minutes and have a conclusion like you expect. Toss in local, border, Marshall and who knows what else on scene, now you have more confusion as everyone is taking orders do this go there while other branches are saying no do this go there.
Bottom line is it’s just not cut and dry what you do and precessions to be executed in minutes. Nor does the theory well your a cop your life doesn’t mean as much as the citizens be it kids or not, that’s what you signed up to do and what our tax dollars pay for. So go run in. It’s a freak shitty situation and no matter what society does, down the road no matter how prepared we think we are something similar but different will happen and we are back to the same stuff.
