Underrated players of all time?

Name a player (s) that you think are the most underrated of all time.
I'll start.

Bill Freehan.
Amazing defensive catcher, hit 200 career homers, finished 2nd in MVP voting in 1968, behind McClain, and some baseball historians say Freehan was just as valuable or more in 1968 than McClain.

Buck O'Neil is one of the greatest players/managers, including the first African-American manager in MLB. He was shafted on the Hall of Fame despite winning a batting title, numerous all-star appearances, and leading teams to league championships.

Absolutely should be in the HOF, and is an all-too-often forgotten player.

Ive got two....one is Jack Morris......winningest pitcher in the 80's....if the hall of fame voting is about being the best in your era....how can he not be in? Not to mention his great post season with the Twins in 91 beating the Braves pitching 10 innings in the World Series......that alone should put him in...these stiffs nowadays cant even pitch 6 innings....

Another one is Lou Whitaker.....can someone explain to me how the OVERRATED Joe Morgan is a so called slam dunk 1st ballot hall of famer and if you pull Whitakers stats against his, they are compareable and he cant get a sniff of votes.....I think a lot of these players are products of where they played....if Whitaker played in New York Im sure he would have been a Hall Of Famer!

Being overrated or underrated has very little to do with how good or bad a player is and virtually everything to do with the general opinion other people have of them. Since most other people involved in rating baseball players are idiots, it is hard to figure out exactly what there opinions are. Can still come up with a couple names

Jackie Robinson -- in some ways the fact that he was truly an All-Time great player gets lost in everything else he did

Rusty Staub -- 2900 games played and an OPS+ of 124

If most people devalue him because of these things that would most certainly make him underrated

U might also look at Gil Hodges.

A couple I thought never got much credit, but had very accomplished careers: Bill Madlock and Bobby Grich.

Too many ifs, if u look at the Hall of Fame, there is not one player there who shouldn't be there. If you are a truly great fan u should go there. I was there and it is impressive to see all the memorabilia and nostalgia. Too bad many really good players will never make it there but that is what seperates the greats from the real goods. There is always that next level in sports which is kind of almost undefinable between good and great. I wish Don Mattingly would be there, but unfortunately because of injuries his career was cut short a little, but compare his numbers to a few there, and his career stats...maybe...maybe he would be there. Too bad Don had to play on bad Yankee teams or he would be there. Donnie baseball mised the Yankee Express either way. But to those who saw him play know a real great Yankee was there.

When Bobby Grich and Ron Santo (and Darrell Evans and Minnie Minoso and others) are so often mentioned as underrated, how is it possible for them to still be underrated? Most people who look at baseball history intelligently seem to rate them appropriately

Dwight Evans was such an all-around talent for so many years in Boston, he'd be in my hall of fame. Al Oliver had simply amazing stats and is never talked about. I know of no one else with over 2700 hits, a better than .300 lifetime average, 9 consecutive seasons of .300 or better who is not in the Hall.

I think Dewey should be a Hall of Famer, one of the greatest defensive RF'ers that ever lived.

Vada Pinson is an underrated bat.

Frank Robinson. When he retired he trailed only Hank, Ruth and Mays in career HR's.

ROY, MVP in both leagues, Triple Crown winner and first black manager.

Gets no love with playing in the era of Mantle, Mays, Aaron, and Clemente.
