Lakers power forward Kermit Washington smashing the crap out of Houston's (and in a strange twist of events - current Lakers' HC) Rudy Tomjanovich when Kermit was involved in a fight at midcourt and Rudy ran to the incident and Kermit must have thought Rudy was coming after him for he NAILED rudy FLUSH in the face and if not for quick medical attention - Rudy woul dhave DIED from the punch
as i said - some people here weren't alive at the time or were too young to recall it - but this HAS to rank right up (or down) there as one of the all-time ugliest moments in sports' history
what ron artest did was bad - but it was nothing compared to what Kermit Washington did and if you think the public was brutal on Artest - they would have been 4,000 times worse on Washington had he done that today with all of the cameras and replays that would have captured the incident.

I'm with Winky- that incident ranks up there. Interesting to see how their future prospects diverged after that incident, and the quality of their current lives is very different to this day:

When danish soccer player Henrik Andersen played for Denmark in the 92 European championships his kneecap was smashed. Surely it is not as bad as some of the fatal incidents mentioned above, but I still remember the close ups of him sitting screaming while looking at his kneecap, which was sitting 3 or 4 different places on his leg, none remotely close to where they should be.

Absolutely and the fans are not immune. I still recall a horrendous accident in the 24 hour Le Mans in 1955 when 77 fans in the crowd were killed when a car exploded and went out of control into the crowd. Also amazing how easy it is to retrieve these events with search engines.wilheim said:
