Definitely hard to disagree with that. Or when they show guys leg getting broken and then the producer seems to think it is important to replay it about 20 times. Who will ever forget Tim Krumrie in the Super Bowl, leg flapping around? Biggest game of the year and just a minute in the huge TV audience gets sobered by that one.

Various auto racing accidents have been brutal. Recently a driver was killed while drag racing, the crash was scary. Not trying to make light of the subject but football and auto racing are not very similar as sports. I know there have been some fatalities on the pro ski tour over the years also. Horse racing is another whole issue.

1994 World Cup when Colombian defender Andres Escobar returned home to Medellin after kicking the ball into his own net in a 2-1 loss to the U.S., he was shot 12 times, murdered by a soccer fan. This is a pic of the fatal goal.

There was a documentary made about that tragic incident.

Colombia had arrived at the finals in the United States in 1994 with high expectations. But Colombia's preparations were conducted against a backdrop of rumors that betting syndicates and drug cartels were exercising their influence over the squad. Coach Hernan Gomez was reported to have received death threats over matters of team selection. Whatever the truth, Colombia's players were affected. They looked edgy and unfocused as they suffered a shocking 3-1 loss in their opening game against Romania. Escobar's moment of misfortune came in Colombia's next game against the United States. Stretching to cut out a cross, he deflected the ball into his own net. The U.S. went on to win 2-1 and the Colombians went home early. In Medellin 10 days later, Escobar was shot several times by a gunman as he left a nightclub. With each bullet his assailant was reported by police to have shouted: "Goal."

Those were all ugly moments for sure....my two worst memories were the morning I woke up and saw that Dale Earnharht had died in that whimpy crash; the second when Greg Olsen got pounded at home plate by Kurt Caminiti(God bless RIP) and broke his leg.

Monica Seles stabbed by Gunther Parche reminded us that fan is short for fanatic when he attacked Seles to keep his beloved Steffi Graf atop the world tennis rankings. One of the many sad footnotes to this story — like the two years probation slap on the wrist he was given by a German judge who must also have been a Graf fan.

Aslo soccer match crowds that panic. There was one in Belgium where 39 fans died at Koening stadium in Brussells when they were crushed trying to get out of the stadium

Ugliest injury - I remember back in the late 80s the Bears had a defensive back his name was Virgil Livers who was out of action one week (at least) reason: "Ruptured testicle". Ouch.

the death of formula one driver Ayrton Senna. he had the a-frame of his car smash up against helmet and into his skull, instantly killing him.

there is also a conspiracy involved.

the prosecution claims the car failed (the steering collum) and caused the collision, but the defense (team williams) mantains Senna lost control.

the final 1.7 seconds of the onboard camera footage is mysteriously missing, when the black box was recovered by authorities it wasnt until a month later and it was completely smashed, some say apparently by a hammer.

they say those who know the truth about senna's death will not step forward, becuase they have everything to lose and nothing to gain.

many say senna was the greatest F-1 driver of all time, better than michael shumacher.

I'll never forget seeing that footage. She was hobbling on the stump as the lower part of her leg flailed away. Just awful.

i wont soon forget when ed mccafrey broke his leg in two places on monday night football -- they replayed it over and over, blind to what was quite obvious. once they saw, what the viewer had seen 4 consecutive times, they apologized.

he was screaming and writhing in pain.

what made this that much more impactful on me, was the date - september 10, 2001.

the following day, as some might say, is history.

ill never forget that.

kaz ishii is up ther with scariest moment, after cracking his skull on a line drive off the bat of a cinci red. the sound it made when it hit his head, was deafening. still amazing the man can throw.

but, im sure most pitchers who are hit in the head feel somewhat the same way.
