MLB | Braves vs Nationals
Play on: Nationals -1½ -110 at 5Dimes

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach Free Pick Tuesday MLB Washington Nationals Run Line -1.5 runs vs Atlanta Braves @ 7:05 ET - The Nationals let one get away last night but look for them to bounce right back tonight. Of course I won't lay 2 to 1 odds on the money line but I do feel there is excellent line value here with the Nats on the run line. By laying the 1.5 runs we get a very low price (currently -115) on Washington and, certainly, they should win this one in a rout. The Braves are starting R.A. Dickey and the knuckler tends to struggle when he's throwing into the wind and that is expected to be the case tonight in DC. Also, Dickey was fortunate he allowed just 2 earned runs when he faced the Nationals earlier this season as he did allow 8 hits and 3 walks in just 5 and 1/3 innings in that start. Though he's coming off of a strong start that was a against a bad Phillies team. Now Dickey faces a tough Nationals lineup and he is unlikely to have much run support here. That's because the Nats are starting Joe Ross and he is off of a 4 hit gem where he allowed just 1 earned run and no walks while striking out 12 in 7 and 1/3 innings in his most recent start. Dickey is 1-3 with a 5.90 ERA in his road starts this season. The Nationals are 3-1 in the 4 home starts Ross has made this season. Washington is 7-2 this season in Tuesday games and, even with last night's tough loss, the Nats are 26-10 in night games on the year. The Braves are 21-36 in Tuesday games the last 3 seasons combined. Look for a home rout here as the Nationals bounce back. Free Pick on WASHINGTON on the run line in early evening action Tuesday. Best of luck, Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach

Preview: Brewers at Cardinals
GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (33-31) at St. Louis Cardinals (29-32)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 13 - 2:15 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Milwaukee Brewers are just two games over .500 but still sit atop the National League Central. The St. Louis Cardinals are used to being on top in the division and will try to chip away at their deficit when they host the Brewers for a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday to kick off a four-game series.

Milwaukee entered the week as the only team in the NL Central with a winning record despite opening a seven-game road trip by dropping two of three at Arizona. The Brewers' success this season is a surprise to some but not St. Louis manager Mike Matheny, who praised Milwaukee when given the chance. "They're a good team," Matheny told reporters of the Brewers. "They have some pop. They're a dangerous club. They've got guys all the way through the lineup that can hurt you in a hurry and they have some pitching that has come around and a bullpen that's filled holes, and they're playing with confidence." The Cardinals dropped seven straight prior to the weekend but got back on track with a three-game sweep of Philadelphia to start a seven-game homestand.

TV: 2:15 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Jimmy Nelson (4-3, 3.45 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Lance Lynn (4-3, 2.88)

Nelson followed up two straight dominant efforts with a solid start and a win against San Francisco on Wednesday in which he allowed three runs and seven hits over six innings. The 28-year-old surrendered a total of one run while striking out 21 and not walking a batter in 15 innings in his previous two turns. Nelson's control was not quite as sharp against St. Louis on April 23, when he walked six and was charged with three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings to absorb the loss.

Lynn is struggling to work deep into games of late and did not complete six innings in any of his last three outings. The Ole Miss product only allowed 11 hits in 15 1/3 innings over those three starts and owns a .191 batting average against overall. Lynn went up against Milwaukee on April 22 and breezed through six innings while striking out seven and allowing one run on three hits and two walks.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cardinals C Yadier Molina (back) missed the last three games but is expected to start one of the games on Tuesday.

2. Milwaukee's top prospect OF Lewis Brinson made his major-league debut on Sunday and went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and a stolen base.

3. St. Louis claimed LHP Sean Gilmartin off waivers from the New York Mets on Sunday and assigned him to Triple-A Memphis.

Preview: Braves at Nationals
GAME: Atlanta Braves (28-35) at Washington Nationals (38-25)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 13 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Hours after placing their closer on the 10-day disabled list, the Washington Nationals' watched their beleaguered bullpen suffer yet another meltdown, resulting in their longest losing streak of the season. Washington looks to halt its four-game skid -- all coming at home -- when it hosts the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.

The Braves rallied for five runs over the final two innings in Monday's wild 11-10 victory, getting a go-ahead three-run blast from Tyler Flowers in the ninth. Atlanta hit five homers in the slugfest, including a pair from Matt Adams, who has eight blasts and 19 RBIs in 22 games since he was imported from St. Louis to replace the injured Freddie Freeman. With closer Koda Glover going on the DL, reliever Matt Albers was victimized by Flowers, prompting Washington manager Dusty Baker to admit after the game: "We need help. We need help big time." Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper ended an 11-game drought by belting his 16th homer, but he has been shut down by Atlanta's scheduled starter, R.A. Dickey, going 4-for-22 with eight strikeouts against the veteran knuckleballer.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN Southeast (Atlanta), MASN (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH R.A. Dickey (4-4, 4.73 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Joe Ross (3-2, 6.16)

Dickey ended a six-start drought with his best outing of the campaign, striking out a season-high eight batters and limiting Philadelphia to one run on three hits over seven innings. He permitted 26 runs during the previous six turns, going 0-2 with four no-decisons during that stretch. Dickey has made 16 career starts against Washington, logging a 4-8 record and 3.86 ERA.

Amid speculation that he could lose his spot in the rotation following a pair of wretched performances, Ross came through with a dominating effort in his last turn. He struck out 12 and held Baltimore's power-laden lineup to one run and four hits over 7 1/3 innings. Ross is 1-1 with a 5.02 ERA in three starts against Atlanta, but Nick Markakis is 5-for-8 against him.

WALK-OFFS

1. Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (back), out of the lineup for the past three games, is expected to return Tuesday.

2. Atlanta selected Vanderbilt RHP Kyle Wright with the No. 5 overall pick in the major league draft Monday night.

3. Washington's Nos. 5-9 hitters were 11-for-19 with five RBIs and five runs scored in the series opener.

Preview: Rockies at Pirates
GAME: Colorado Rockies (41-25) at Pittsburgh Pirates (29-35)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 13 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

If the Pittsburgh Pirates hope to climb out of the basement in the National League Central, they will need to get ace right-hander Gerrit Cole untracked. Cole has been rocked in four consecutive starts and will look to reverse his swoon in the second of a three-game series against the visiting Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.

Cole has failed to get through five innings in each of the last four starts, giving up 23 runs and eight homers over 19 1/3 innings. He has a chance to give Pittsburgh its first four-game winning streak following the emotionally uplifting performance from Jameson Taillon, who tossed five scoreless innings Monday in his first start since undergoing surgery for testicular cancer five weeks ago. Opposing Cole will be Colorado right-hander Tyler Chatwood, who has won his last three starts on the road while allowing a combined two runs and nine hits over 21 innings. DJ LeMahieu has three straight two-hit games and has hit safely in five straight for the NL-leading Rockies, who have dropped two in a row after starting the month 8-1.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ROOT (Colorado), ROOT (Pittsburgh)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Tyler Chatwood (6-7, 4.37 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Gerrit Cole (3-6, 4.83 ERA)

Chatwood has factored in the decision in each of his 13 starts, winning his last two in impressive fashion by allowing one run and four hits in each to beat the Chicago Cubs and San Diego. Chatwood allowed a total of three walks in the two victories after allowing at least three free passes in eight straight starts. Chatwood has been tormented by John Jaso, who is 5-for-8 against him.

After losing his season debut against Boston, Cole put together a string of eight straight quality starts before his current tailspin, during which he has been pounded for 39 hits. Cole has already surrendered a career-worst 15 home runs, more than double his total (7) from his 21 starts in 2016. Nolan Arenado is 5-for-8 with a pair of homers and Mark Reynolds 5-for-13 off Cole.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pirates LF Josh Harrison homered in the series opener to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

2. Rockies CF Charlie Blackmon is riding a 10-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 26 of 29 games.

3. Pirates CF Andrew McCutchen is 8-for-15 during a four-game hitting streak.

Preview: Rays at Blue Jays
GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (34-32) at Toronto Blue Jays (31-32)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 13 - 7:07 PM EST
WHERE: Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays have become very familiar with one another early in the season and the American League East rivals will meet again Tuesday night in Canada for the opener of a two-game set. The clubs split 10 meetings in the first five weeks of the year and both enter their fourth series together with a bit of momentum.

The Rays capped a 5-2 homestand with a 5-4 win over Oakland on Sunday, as recent call-up Mallex Smith continued to make an impact. Brought up Friday to replace injured center fielder Kevin Kiermaier (hip), Smith went 8-for-14 with a homer, six runs scored and four stolen bases in the four-game series with the Athletics over the weekend. He and his teammates will take aim at a Blue Jays staff that allowed a total of six runs in taking two of three at Seattle, capped by Sunday's 4-0 triumph. Jacob Faria, who won his major-league debut last Wednesday, gets the start opposite fellow right-hander Marco Estrada for the Blue Jays.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Jacob Faria (1-0, 1.42 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Marco Estrada (4-4, 4.04)

Faria was summoned from Triple-A Durham for Tuesday's start to take the place of Matt Andriese, who is likely out until August with a stress reaction in his hip, and Jake Odorizzi will be moved back to Wednesday. The 23-year-old limited the Chicago White Sox to one run on three hits and two walks over 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts in a 3-1 victory last week. Faria, a former 10th-round draft pick, is 6-1 with a 3.07 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings at Durham in 2017.

Estrada entered June at 4-2 with a 3.15 ERA, but he's been knocked around for 11 runs and 16 hits in 9 1/3 innings over his first two starts this month. Included in that stretch is a rocky performance (seven runs in 3 2/3 innings) against the New York Yankees in his most recent home outing. The 33-year-old faced the Rays twice in Tampa Bay earlier in the year, giving up 10 runs in 11 frames to fall to 1-6 lifetime against the divisional foes.

WALK-OFFS

1. Bautista is 5-for-36 with 14 strikeouts against the Rays this year.

2. Rays OF Colby Rasmus has nine home runs in his last 29 games.

3. Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson is batting .351 with five home runs in June.

Preview: Diamondbacks at Tigers
GAME: Arizona Diamondbacks (39-26) at Detroit Tigers (30-32)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 13 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Detroit Tigers had high hopes for Buck Farmer when they selected the right-hander in the fifth round of the 2013 draft, but those expectations were quickly diminished after disappointing parts of three seasons in the majors from 2014-16. Fast forward to 2017 and the outlook has changed dramatically as Farmer tries to extend his scoreless innings streak when Detroit hosts the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday in the opener of a two-game interleague series.

"Over the past couple years a lot of people have said I may have been rushed," Farmer told reporters Wednesday after winning for the second time in two starts since being called up from Triple-A Toledo. "But you know what? It happened, and here I am, so that's in the past." Farmer, who was 0-6 with a 6.84 ERA in 32 games - 0-5, 10.26 in eight starts - in his previous three seasons, hasn't allowed a run over 13 innings while striking out 16. The Diamondbacks counter with Zack Greinke, who returns from the paternity list after winning two straight starts and seven of his last eight decisions. The Tigers (30-32), who split a two-game set in Arizona last month, have lost four of their last six games while the Diamondbacks (39-26) are tied for the third-most victories in baseball after winning five of their past six as they battle for supremacy in the National League West.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (8-3, 3.20 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Buck Farmer (2-0, 0.00)

Greinke allowed three runs, seven hits and a walk while striking out eight in five innings - tied for his shortest outing of the season - in a 7-4 victory over San Diego on Wednesday. The 33-year-old Floridian, whose wife gave birth to their second son Griffin on Friday, has allowed fewer than three runs in eight of his 13 starts this season and boasts 100 strikeouts in 84 1/3 innings. Greinke is 13-7 with a 2.79 ERA in 28 games (25 starts) versus Detroit, last facing them in 2014 as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and does pretty well against Miguel Cabrera (.286 batting average in 35 at-bats, one home run, 11 strikeouts).

Farmer allowed three hits and one walk while striking out five in 6 2/3 innings of a 4-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Georgian, born George Runie Farmer, made his 2017 major league debut May 27 and struck out 11 while yielding three hits and two walks in a 4-3 win over the White Sox in Chicago. Farmer went 26-21 with a 3.65 ERA in 80 games (79 starts) playing at all three minor-league levels since starring at Georgia Tech.

WALK-OFFS

1. Arizona is hitting a major league-best .293 at home, where they own baseball's top record at 26-9, but a majors-worst .219 on the road entering Monday.

2. Tigers LF Justin Upton and 3B Nicholas Castellanos each own 10-game hitting streaks after homering Sunday with Upton's grand slam giving him a club-high 13 blasts and Castellanos' his third in four games. Upton upped his average 32 points to .269 during the streak while Castellanos' rose from .208 to .229.

3. Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt hit a grand slam Sunday, moving into second place on the club's career home run list with 154. Luis Gonzalez hit 224 homers in eight seasons (1999-2006) with Arizona.

Preview: Cubs at Mets
GAME: Chicago Cubs (31-32) at New York Mets (29-33)
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, June 13 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The road woes continue for the Chicago Cubs, who haven’t won away from Wrigley Field in a month and have dropped nine straight on the road heading into the second of a three-game series against the New York Mets on Tuesday. The Mets have won four straight on the strength of dominant pitching and are trying to clinch their first series win at home since May 19-21 against the Los Angeles Angels.

The Mets won 6-1 in Monday’s opener, as Jay Bruce continued his recent hot streak by going 3-for-3 and hitting his 17th home run and Asdrubal Cabrera homered twice. Jacob deGrom tossed the Mets’ first complete game at home since Jon Niese in August 2013, and New York allowed just one run for the fourth straight game. Chicago has scored only 13 runs in its nine straight road defeats. Cubs left-hander Jon Lester hopes for better run support as he takes aim at his 150th career win after failing to reach the milestone last time out against Colorado.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ABC 7 (Chicago), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs LH Jon Lester (3-4, 4.13 ERA) vs. Mets RH Zack Wheeler (3-3, 3.45)

After a complete-game gem against San Francisco on May 23, Lester has gone 0-2 with an 8.16 ERA over three starts since. The 33-year-old gave up four runs and six hits over five innings on Thursday against the Rockies, with all the damage coming in one inning, including a three-run blast by DJ LeMahieu. Lester is 3-1 with a 4.67 ERA in five starts against the Mets.

Wheeler has allowed more than two runs only once in his last seven starts, and that was a quality start at Pittsburgh in which he gave up three runs over six innings. The 27-year-old was excellent Wednesday at Texas, limiting the Rangers to one run and six hits over seven frames in a no-decision. Wheeler has been dominant in two starts against the Cubs, both in 2014, going 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA and 17 strikeouts over 13 1/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Bruce is 15-for-39 with five homers during a nine-game hitting streak.

2. Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo was 1-for-2 with two walks Monday and is 9-for-22 with a homer during a seven-game hitting streak.

3. Chicago RF Jason Heyward is 7-for-19 with two doubles and two home runs against Wheeler.

PREDICTION: Cubs 5, Mets 3
