I would almost be surprised if it's not Calipari. It almost seems too obvious. but I still think that happens.

Minny will feel this way in a few years also :ohno:

No they won't Minny has been nothing for a long time. Tubby can't possibly help but being a huge step-up for the program and get them some better recruits. Not to say'll win a big 10 or a championship, but they were going nowehere anyway. It's a great signing for them, without question.

You guys are hilarious how accurate you are in predicting the future.

Bottom line, whether you think tubby got the raw end of the deal in kentucky or you think he under-achieved, it's all subjective, it's all your opinion. And the guy that wrote that long article about how MN is in for it now with tubby as coach and the guy that posted it with the words "this guy gets it", well I would say there is a whole lot of bitterness there.

Let us gopher fans enjoy this, as trytrytry said this is a big deal to MN sports. Lets see what happens over the next few seasons before all the know-it-alls predict the future.

well, Minnesota.
Now he is at Minnesota, which isn't one of the top three coaching jobs in the Big Ten. Or one of the top six. In the Big Ten alone, the Minnesota job is behind Ohio State, Michigan State, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan, and probably on par with Iowa. If I'm right about that -- and I'm right -- that means Minnesota is seventh or eighth among the basketball programs in its conference, ahead only of Purdue, Penn State and Northwestern.

Doyel is such an idiot, I mean every single article of his is stupid. He says Purdue is the 9th best program in the Big Ten. LOL. I think they have more championships than anyone and they have a winning record against every other team in the Big Ten. They have a very solid fanbase too No way is Minny a better job than Purdue.

I wasn't predicting the future here, just giving a history lesson to a moron.

Journey I hope you know I am not talking to you. I have been around here long enough to respect the knowledge and passion you have for sports, you know a whole lot more shit than I do.

Good luck this weekend :toast:

Actually, it's not bitterness, it's just the facts...

He has dragged Ky from a championship down to a team that will be fighting for an NIT berth next year due to his complete ineptitude in recruiting...he bailed out cause he knew nobody is going to hire him next year after he has run KY into the ground...

I do agree that it's a great move for Minn, and I think it's WIN/WIN/WIN for everyone all the way around...

Tubby goes to a place where he can go 22-13 and be treated like a God with no pressure...he was way, way, way in over his head at Ky, and just fielding a competitive team gets the job done in Minn, but not KY...

He was completely miserable at Ky and couldn't handle the pressure...he accepted the Sou Car job in 2001 and then backed out at the last second...he had similar conversations with VA a couple of years ago...he has been contemplating trying to get out for years...unfortunately for Ky, he waited until he had completely buried the program...

Tubby can coach. His problem was that he couldn't recruit. Ky didn't have top 25 prep in the last four years. That shows up on the court.

Fans there were howling, rich boosters had raised millions to buy out his contract, even a top of google website, FIRE TUBBY SMITH (altho he remained one of the most popular men in Kentucky).

The administration even had stated that they were going to hire several assistant coaches who were recruiting specialists to help Tubby out in building a good team. LOL

When things get the that kind of burlesque, it's time to throw in the towel . . .

Billy Donavan is not going anywhere. Are you kidding me?

I'm not saying he will....but he sure didn't say he won't. Heres his comment when asked after Floridas win yesterday.

"All I can say about that is that it has nothing to do with me right now, and everything to do with Kentucky," Donovan said. "All I have been focusing on is my team and spending as much time as possible preparing my team because it's been such a joy to coach them.

"I cannot control that. That's someone else's decision to make. There's always going to be speculation about a lot of different things, but I'm not the decision-maker in the process."

Yeah, don't be too sure about BD not going to KY...

It could happen...he's definitely Ky's #1 target and the numbers being thrown around are just nuts - he'll listen to what Ky has to offer...

Based on what I've read, Ky is the one other college job that he might take...

Many of the Ky boards think he's coming...I'm not convinced that he'll say yes, but I feel pretty confident that he'll listen, and get a lot more money out of FL at the very minimum, if he doesn't wind up at Ky...
