Best i have heard are Barkley, Dennis Rodman, Andre Agassi, Warren Sapp, and Jason Taylor

I could definately see Jason Taylor ... as much as a Bills fan is genetically forced to hate the Fish I have to give credit where it's due - DE, Jason Taylor, seem like nothing but a class act. He seems like the perfect family man, he's very intelligent & he's a decent guy ... watch him sometime .. he's one of the few guys that will let up on a vulernable QB if possible. Scum like Sapp would paralize the opposition if possible, but not Taylor - he plays the game hard, but clean.

Beantownjim's wife (Cheryl) would agree with you! She also thinks he has a nice ass and is hung like a bull. He always throws her a hundred when he leaves

drhockey- Good post. What you talked about was another example of how customer service and pride in ones work has gone down the tubes in this country. Too many workers don't give shit about doing a quality job for the customer. When a person is working in a position where they depend on and expect tips, they should be going above and beyond what you would consider "average" service. Many employees do a poor or average job and then have their hand out expecting not only a tip but a big tip. NO. If you want a good tip, then work for it.

I have lost count at the number of times I have had to take my empty glass up to the beverage station to get a refill and you'll find a group of waiters and watresses jaw jacking instead of checking on their tables. Then they wonder why they get stiffed or get a small tip.

Danny- Ray Kroc must be doing summersaults in his grave when he sees what a shit operation McDonald's has become. It used to be a pretty good place to go to but you visit McDonald's now and the places are filthy. They have one register open with 8 people in line and there's 3 managers standing around with clipboards looking at everyone in line. You would think one of those idiot managers would get to work and open up a register. But no, that would be providing good service. What a piss poor operation McDonald's has become.

it should be noted- waiters/waitresses and bartenders do not have a salary. tips are their income. they make $2.12 an hour plus tips.

also waiters/waitresses in most restaurants give a portion of their tips to the bartender ( for drink service) and the bussers each shift.

I understand the gripes about how poor or very poor service does not require a tip, but keep in mind what waiters make when you get average service ( food is what you ordered, comes in a reasonable time, waiter does make efforts to get you anything you need) a 15% tip should be given. tip less for bad service, but if you do, then very good or great service should be rewarded with a 20% tip.

anything less than that... is just being mean and cheap in my opinion.

I understand the gripes about tips getting out of hand, personally, I don't see the need to tip maids who get $10-15 hour in salary already. But wait staff deserve to be tipped. Nobody does that job for $2.12 an hour, if as a customer you don't pay your share of their salary, you are stiffing someone who is working very hard for a tough living. That is not a commendable thing, it reflects very poorly on you.

Again, I understand the times when the service is bad the gratuity can be adjusted down or in extreme cases eliminated. that's OK. Stiffing someone who earned their money is not OK.

At least US residents have the option of tipping in restaurants. In most countries a 10 to 15 percent automatic gratuity is included in the bill. So regardless of the service you are CHARGED a tip.

Hey, this thread reminds me, what is the appropriate tip for a Moderator?

I agree with Mr. Smith. Most tipped jobs come with expectations of receiving a tip. The waiter/valet didn't take take minimum wager because that's what was expected. Gratuity is EXPECTED on both ends. The tipper gets the freedom to adjust based on service. Giving 10% sends a message of improvement needed and giving 20% says great job. IMO, Giving 0% only sends a message that you're a stiff and a cheap bastard taking advantage of others buy asking them to wait on you for minimum wage. But granted McD and BK is extreme.

To tell them to get out while they can.

The best ever athelete tipper was a journeyman pitcher for the Mets (2 years) and the Houston Astros (6 years or so) named Mike Scott. Scott was legendary for his generosity with clubhouse men around the National League. He was'nt a half bad pitcher either, won around 125 games on lousy teams.

Lou,

You are remembering the 14th hole. Great par 4.

And yes, they did spend an awful lot of money to give Steve Wynn's house a little more breathing room!

So you are the guy who caused all that!

Didn't see it mentioned or if everyone heard this before.

Nobody wants to get stuck handling this guys party.

Can I nominate Shawn Kemp as the greatest tipper? I delivered pizzas to him some years back. One time I had 4 of them for a small party (by his standards) and he gave me $150 for a $65 tab. Not only that, but he invited me and all of the drivers to come to his seemingly weekly parties. His parties were ridiculous, you had everything from high school kids that were Sonic ballboys to his mailman. He would have about 300 people in his place and probably know the name of 20 of them. Sad thing was I wasn't quite 21 at the time because he would throw the party and then after 11pm hustle everyone out to a club and negotiate some deal with the owner to get everyone in for a couple hundred bucks. Can't say the claims of 7 or 8 kids or whatever surprised me, that guy would supposedly nail 3 or 4 chicks during those parties and believe me those parties were hopping with a lot of p***y.

Look at the list. In general black people are not good tippers. This is simply true. Friends who wait tables tell me the same thing. They don't even want to wait on them.

i think that is a pretty strong statement. I have a lot of black friends including black athletes, and yes, i agree that some of them tip horribly considering their monetary position. However, if you think of the impoverished backgrounds that most grew up in, you can see how tipping was the furthest thing from their minds. When they came into money, a lot of them never learned the importance of it. I dont think it correlates to them being bad people. I just think a lot of them never grew up in an environ where tipping was very prevolent. sp.

I completely agree Weekend, it absolutely has to do with where they grew up. Its not unlike how people from the Great Depression era are with their money.

I agree with Vaulted Treehouse about blacks being notorius tippers. The majority NEVER tip. Next time you go in a restaurant ask the waiters and waitresses about this. You will be suprised at the response.

Shadow Creek was awesome. I was there when it first opened. Faux Rocks like at Mirage. A creek running thru it. Caddied for Mr Wynn
s group when it was getting dusk. He walked right into me. Couldn't see me. Sad. That course was unbelievable.

A friend of mine owned a limo service for 10 years(until 9-11 & the markets killed the big profits), then cashed out.

He said Dan Marino, Charles Barkley, and John "Hot Rod" Williams are fabulous tippers, polite, gracious, and willing to autograph and take pics with fans at hotels.
