I am enjoying day #61 of being clean and sober, and thanks again for the food for thought and your concern through total honesty!!

To veryone else, I am honestly touched by your support...knowing that I am sober, and proud to honestly say I am, if someone ever needs help in this area, know that I am here.

Quit jerking yourself off. You're high on your new high.Just like your old high, it won't be working after a while. Then the dullness and boredom sets in of reality.Stay humble.
Don't try helping anyone but yourself.Your still counting days.Wait till your counting months/years and then forgetting how long its been.Remember you are only a few weeks removed from being an addicted selfish fuck.Mother Teresa wasn't built in a day.
Good job but keep it in perspective moving forward and keep it moving forward through the tough times. The minute you say you can quit anytime because you quit for 60 or 90 days or whatever. You never ever really quit at all.....and thats just one of the smaller land mines.

Thats a pretty solid post Pat P.

Not much is worse than a dry drunk giving too much advice.

Stay off the juice maxx, but dont count your chickens too soon.

11.5 years of being a dry drunk I would know. But I have experinced true sobriety on occasion and probably took me 10 years to understand the difference.

A drink problem is no different to any other problem in life. I drink and outside the obvious talking bollocks and a few mistakes betting which I put up with, any other problems can be had regardless of drink. There are dopes talking the biggest bollocks going who have never touched a drink not alone other personal problems. In my long career as a Bookmaker I seen more marriage break-ups because of Golf than actual Gambling related problems, yes drink and Gambling can get out of hand but I wonder if neither were invented would the same people still have problems. :drink:

BSMAXX, very glad to hear you're enjoying more healthy days.

I highly commend attendance at AA and/or NA as you see fit.

I walked into NA in Jan 1994 seeking a way to interupt what had for me been almost 20 years of consistently dysfunctional living that included routine abuse of alcohol, cocaine and meth.

I actually had stopped drinking almost a year previously and about 18 months later (Oct 1995) I took my last bump of coke.

Over the next eight years I learned through association with more healthy thinkers how to live without abusing myself or others.

And that for me was the key. Drug use was not the core problem. Abusing myself and others was the core problem.

I've remained a routine user of cannabis throughout and about three years ago began drinking socially without adverse consequence.

I probably use alcohol now about once a month and catch a pretty good buzz. But since learning better habits overall, it's functional and I no longer fear that I will harm myself or others.

I obviously don't personally subscribe to the oft-stated notion of many 12steppers that you can "Never Ever Take Another Drink".

But I do fully respect that until one learns better life habits (Pssst...It's ALL IN YOUR HEAD), it's smart to not try and mix in intoxicants which can distort thinking within that same head.

For me, it was almost 11 years between drinks. Try that out for now and in October 2018, we'll consider having a glass of wine to celebrate your past decade of improved health.

WINBET aptly notes: yes drink and Gambling can get out of hand but I wonder if neither were invented would the same people still have problems.

SH: Yep. Because until they fix how the inside of their head works, they can be sober as a churchmouse and still be a really big mess.

Pat, I did have 3 years of sobriety before my relapse and of course I am on a pink cloud, and it feels good. I truely thought the only way I would get sober again is if I were to die. Yes, I am counting days, and personally see nothing wrong with letting others know I am sober within these confines. One way for me to stay sober is by helping other ppl, even if its just by starting this thread. I dont think I am jerking melf off as you put it, but I appreciate the advice none the less. Any and all feedback is appreciated obviously, yours included. Thanks for your time in posting, and sorry you classify yourself as a dry drunk, I wouldnt have noticed. Staying humble, I beleive I am. But as humans we judge outselves by our intentions and are judged by others from our actions. My intentions, honestly, are nothing more than to post about this episode of my life, maybe it helps someone else, but I know it helps me in one way shape or form. I assume something that was said in this thread led you to believe otherwise, thanks for you bluntness and not sugarcoating your feelings on this issue.

Even someone with 5, 10, or 20 years of sobriety started out with one day, or in my case this time around, 60 days. I see nothing wrong with talking about it. The real sadness is when someone dosent realize its an accomplishment and chooses not to talk about it or help other likeminded or afflicted ppl. Not offering to help others and continuing to do everything else in life you did while you were drinking or using, and just removing the substance is the true sadness. Might as well keep drinking, at least that person will be drunk and miserable, instead of just miserable.

Different strokes for different folks...What works for one may not work for others...Given my track record I dont think I can ever drink or use socially or safely. Weater that be now or in 2018...lol. I guess that bridge will be crossed when I get there, but for now I choose to remain abstinate. Plenty of time before 2018 to make a decision. Thanks.

I know you are, my comprehension level is not what it should be at times these days, but I try to find the message that ppl offer. Your style for trying to be helpful is unique but it is helpful regardless. I am glad I reiterated the point you were trying to make and thanks again for your genuine concern.
By the way Max I'm on your side.

BigShot,
Keep it up. From experience I can tell you the days will go fast. I'm 10months and can tell you it took a long time to like the feeling of "drug-free", but it beats the chase I was in this time last year.

Was terrible 3-5years ago.

Buying case of beer for roommates and by the time they got home it was gone:drink:.

Staying away from whatever addiction you have is a 24hour job for the rest of you life. But acknowledging the problem puts you on the right track to stay focused.:aktion033:aktion033
